What do you consider an old car.

I did not say that the car was not serviceable or in good condition. I said it was old. Old does not mean that the car doesn't work, but that it may need more maintenance or replacement parts than expected.

At any point after the 100K mark, it can have issues that could be significant amounts of money to repair, something you don't expect from a new or non-old car, unless you have a lemon. But after 100K, there are some components that could need replacing for a big $ amount. And nowadays, with so many electronic or computer components, many systems are expensive to replace when they wear out. I have an older car that needed the power steering replaced. Due to the built in computer, it would have cost about $3300 to replace the computer and power steering mechanisms combined. I also had an AC compressor issue and the component was no longer manufactured by the dealer (they discontinued this model about 3 years ago) and the after-market replacement cost $1400. A pain when dealing with an old car, and definitely tells me I need to replace my car, but not something I would expect from a new car or even a middle age car. Note, I did not have any of these issues until after 150K when it isn't as surprising.
