Do you blatantly curse in front of your teen?

This weekend my SIL and BIL were over and I was rather taken aback by the degree that they would curse in front of their 14 year old, including use of the F-word. My teens are the same age, and I've cursed in front of them as well, but not blatantly - more unintentionally, like I stub my toe and "Oh Sh**!" slips out, although admittedly I do curse a lot when I am outside of their earshot. Do most parents censor themselves in front of their teens or just curse as much as they normally would?

No- by accident sometimes if something surprising occurs. It's a bad example to set. Kids like to see parents in command of themselves- cursing doesn't give that impression.

my bad -I do all the time.

I wouldn't but my DH totally does. Lost that battle. My kids are unsurprisingly foul mouthed teens. I've warned them they will be judged by some for using foul language.

Some people cuss others don't.

In the end it is meaningless, except there is some studies that show people that cuss are nicer, happier and more authentic.

but this is DC so we don't care about that.

Yes, I do. She already hears it other places, including school. It's not every other word is a curse word. But, yes, I do.

I don’t “blatantly” curse in front of my child, but I don’t censor myself, either. He’s a young teen and has heard curse words for years, but doesn’t say them, yet (they’re not forbidden fruit, so no thrill for him to say).

To clarify, we have never cursed at him, but do curse in his presence.

No, I was a sailor until I gave birth. I ceased cussing and I’m surprised I was able to stop so instantly. It comes out rarely on accident, like when I stub my toe but even then I often catch myself and say fudge. I don’t understand how I could ever have cussed so much to begin with. Now, when I hear people cussing in passing they sound so crass.

Only when he's severely f$#*ing up!

Yes, but I stopped smoking cold turkey the day I found out I was pregnant so that makes up for it.

Yes. It’s not a big deal.

I do in the car because there are soooooooo many bad drivers. I just can't stand it.

Including the F-word? And what age was your daughter when you started doing it?

Nope. I try to hide my cursing from him, and I expect him to do me the courtesy of trying to hide his from me.

Not judging. But for those of you who curse in front of your teens, do you also curse in front of your teen's friends?
