Physical Therapist for Pregnancy-related Back/hip issues

Anonymous
I’m 20 weeks and already struggling with bad middle and upper back pain as well as hip issues. Can anyone recommend a good physical therapist for this sort of thing?

Do you want to visit a physical therapist or a chiropractor? Have you tried doing stretches daily? Elevating your legs while laying, cold and hot compress daily and taking hot bath with epsom salt helps (1-2x per week). I’m pregnant as well and have a mild case of scoliosis who struggles with sciatica pain, so I know what you’re feeling but doing the above has really helped me thus far.

Body Connect in the West End if you can pay for out of network.

Physical therapist yes. Chiropractor a hard NO. Physical therapists teach you how to manage and correct an issue yourself, while a chiropractor makes you dependent on going in for a manipulation to get pain relief that never resolves, because you never correct muscle strength or imbalance issues that lead to pain in the first place. You probably need a prescription for PT for your insurance to cover it, so ask your OB for a recommendation.

That’s false. Some chiros are that way, some are not.

+1

I’ve been to quite a few chiropractors. The last practice I visit, well, this was the first office that I went to and they had a full on gym set up. He did not waste any time and after reviewing X-rays, going over my history and answering my questions, he put me to work and I was not ready! I was a little sore the next day but later that week I started to notice a major change. He doesn’t believe in medication and he also suffered with back issues, which led to his career. I did so many stretches and used so many weights while engaging in different activities. It wasn’t until I visited this practice that I learned chiropractic visits are more than massages and adjustments. I’m no longer in VA but I would definitely go back to him if I could, however, I am against these type of appointments while pregnant.
