W&L D&D Group?

Anonymous
If your son or daughter student at W&L High School is into Dungeons & Dragons or MtG, do you know if there are groups that play? Or would your teen be interested in playing?

There are kids who play. DCUM can’t help with finding your high school kid a play date.

There’s a gamers club that used to meet on the occasional Friday. There is a list of clubs. Your kid has look at the list and go to a meeting.

If your kid needs more encouragement than that, I believe the county has some social skills programs.

Wow, snark much?

OP - If your kid is really into these things, I'd also encourage him/her to look for a FLGS (Friendly Local Game Store) in your area that hosts MtG tournaments - they may also have D&D groups etc. I am in MD, so I don't know VA all that well, but there is also a FLGS in DC - Labyrinth, that hosts D&D games and MtG tournaments. I would recommend that either of you do web searches for that, and then go visit the store to get the vibe of the store and whether they are welcoming to newcomers, women, etc. Once he or she has found a group there, they may be able to direct her to school stuff. I will say that my child who does lots of tournaments and enjoys a good D&D session is not interested in doing it at school - too many other things going on, and he keeps the two spheres separate, so he really enjoys store tournaments and D&D sessions.

Not meaning to be snarky, but just making the strong point that mom can’t fix this via a bunch of other moms. Your suggestions are great. OP’s vision of central Arlington moms getting her son in with their group just won’t fly.

I think there's an article in WaPo today about D&D groups around the DMV.

I waited till my own snark died down. My son is on the spectrum. Please don’t assume you know my son more than I do. There but for the grace
of God go you.

It's possible for your child to start a D&D group.

My kid (who's now a freshman in college) played D&D with W&L kids. I think they're in the Advanced Strategy club on this list.

Hi there,
My son plays D&D at school and we bought the game (cards, sheets, books, etc) but I proved to be a lousy Dungeon Master. He is about to turn 14 and on the spectrum, too. Let me know if you are interested in connecting. We're in Reston.

Hello everyone I am a beginner and do not know how to play properly and do not quite understand the meaning of the game. I was interested in it only after watching the TV series The Big Bang Theory. My friend who plays a bit advised me to find a D&D Guide on the Internet and learn from it, but I didn't find anything like that. The only thing that I found is online games, but they are not interesting to me because I believe that they take too much time and cause addiction. Board games attract me because I can gather people and have fun. Can anyone suggest a training book or video guides?
