Georgetown is DEAD. Georgetown used to be so much FUN. So what happened?

So what went wrong?

High retail rents?

Other areas of DC were developed and Georgetown could not keep up?

Everybody grew up, matured and simply moved on?

Yeah, it is much more upscale with less character than it used to have. Mo money less fun.

White people feel safe in more areas of DC, which meant more competition.

Plus, I also blame Jack Evans for terrible leadership, the NIMBYs for actively blocking commercial and residential development, and the liquor license moratorium which prevented new restaurants and bars from opening.

And now the local residents have the temerity to go to ANC meetings and whine about how Wisconsin Ave has so much empty retail. Duh, you old timers caused it!

Georgetown is such a trek. Once I finally arrive, I feel like I'm trapped. My favorite 'girls day' was lunch at Mendocino Grill (RIP) followed by shopping, but I haven't spent an afternoon there in years.

They didn't want the Metro and now they're paying the price......hahahahaha!

Too far without proper and easy public transit options, driving there is a nightmare, and the food options are either super expensive and pretentious or blah! I'm not going to Gtown to shop at Sephora. Nor am I paying some dumb boutique a million dollars for a dress.

No metro. I just don't bother to go there.

This is a bad urban legend. WMATA did a feasibility study and it showed the water table is too high in Georgetown to cost effectively build a Metro station. They would have to go deeper than any other station in the system to build the station and tunnel system to Rosslyn.

Yes, there were some outspoken residents who did not want it. But WMATA made the decision based on engineering practicality and costs.
