It closed several years ago, but you wouldn’t know that cause you’re just a lil’ baby, right? Who cares how old pp is? |
Girl, I’m not to proud to eat @ wawa. |
| I use Georgetown as a substitute for Montgomery Mall when I have to do that type of shopping. |
| I was in Georgetown on Saturday afternoon and it was PACKED with people--mostly tourists I think. The people on this thread saying it's become too upscale are nuts--all the old stores have been replaced with fast-fashion chains and junky crap like Wawa. Back in the good old days, there was a great independent bookstore (RIP Olsson's), a upscale department store (Garfinkel's), fun shops like Commander Salamandar etc. There was a great French restaurant where Banana Republic is now, and Nathan's was a mainstay for decades on the corner across from there. Oh well. |
Rive Gauche. |
But they have never have had Metro and it used to be jam packed. |
| Its all a bunch of chains now. It used to have character and fun stores when we were teens. |
Yes! And remember Le Steak on M St? It was the original version of what Medium Rare does now--just steak, salad and frites. So good! |
Don't forget about the Punk record store. |
| Georgetown was a product of an era when its WASP residents led the local social scene and when much of the city was a no-go zone. Georgetown has competitors that it never had 20+ years ago. |
Exactly, PP! I am not yet 50 and I remember Mendocino fondly. Was one of my favorites! Unum was good too but no Mendocino. So many old Georgetown favorites have closed. It's just sad. |
Bring back RR. |
| Music now yoshitoshi |

Wawa is actually pretty decent. I've tried their sandwiches and they're much better than Subway. Can't speak for the Georgetown branch.

Yes! And remember that the banana republic had the faux safari look? Loved Britches too. |
