I find this story interesting how they define things. Anacostia used to be overwhelmingly Irish Catholic but nobody said anything when they left. dC also used to have s much larger population than it has now |
| Sounds great. Just need to vote in people that will not impeed progress, avoid rent controls and be vigilant in prosecuting criminals. |
| Sorry for typo on the title. It autocorrected the most to “Tempe” |

That was a really great article. Thanks for sharing!
Lee's Flower Shop is a great community amenity. On the flip side, we must also recognize the increasing land values that accompany gentrification have enriched many middle-class and working-class Washingtonian African-American families. These families are taking the money after sitting on prime real estate for decades. Some have gone into the real estate development business themselves. I'd like to understand better their role in this, how they've used this new wealth, and their views. No one in the local media have talked with them and I'm guessing they would prefer to keep a low profile in their community. |
| I think people miss the fact we live in a capitalist country; money wins always. We need to start focusing on improving education and wages for minorities. Money is the only way to win. |
there’s done plan trump is doing to encourage investment in distressed areas but it means capital gains tax relief which democrats won’t want. |
There are some middle class AAs in DC--in some Ward 4 and 5 neighborhoods and in Hillcrest etc. EOTR--but the majority of AAs who've remained in DC for the past few decades are poor/working class and don't own property. |
I have a relative who lived in columbiaheights. Part of a townhouse and there are multiple high rise public housing buildings around it. The cars in the parking lot are much nicer than the cars of the people who own rowhouses who park on the street. |
Like anybody gives a crap about the disparity in homeownership?
|
| Curious if anti gentrification advocates are homophobes given many of the “gentrifiers” who first live in tend to be gay? |
| You should see what happens in Boyle Heights in LA in the name of anti gentrification. Business get boycotted, antisemitic attacks , black homes got firebombed, etc. |
| I'm not a DC native but I am black and own property in DC. Back when I bought my house the black people I knew from this area turned their nose up at the IDEA of buying a house IN DC. It was odd to me at the time but these people had lived here through the crack years and had a different feeling about DC proper than I did. |
So anti-gentrification advocates aren't upset about the decrease of affordable housing and black businesses disappearing they're just upset about gays. Gotcha. |
so a racist motive is better than a homophobic one? |
