| I saw that Yorktown is the only school ranked in the top 25 in nova (they’re #7). Has anyone seen them play this year? What is so special about them? |
| that it's 100% Arlington players so they all know certain system of play on day 1 of the season unlike other high schools which have kids from different clubs and it takes half of season to get them to play together |
| Also Arlington's DA for older players doesn't kick in til next year (03 and above) so these girls are all top players and not subject to the "no outside sports/other teams" edict. Next year when they get the full DA, the Yorktown team will look VERY different. |
| Meh. Soccer rankings for HS are even less meaningful than GotSoccer rankings. The only thing they have to go by is record, and there are wide disparities in level of play from area to area. |
| There were Arlington girls at McLean DA sessions because they want to play for Yorktown next year. There's nothing like being on a team that's competing for a high school state championship and having all the kids from your school come and cheer for your team. I hope DA changes their "no high school" rule before my DD is that age. I loved playing high school soccer. I know it isn't as high quality as club soccer but there is so much fun both on/off the field and it makes the best memories. |
I think you meant ECNL, as McLean doesn't have DA, they have ECNL and ECNL allows HS soccer. To your second point, yes - HS soccer is fun and gets kids to connect with their school, friends, etc. Its great and its cheap!! |
|
Our daughters are not playing for the national teams. Let that sink in and let them enjoy their childhood. ECNL is a proven pathway if they want to go beyond. This BS is getting out of hand
|
I don't see how that will happen. GDA would have to completely rework their schedules and recant on their founding principles. |
| If the 03 and above Yorktown girls are trying out for McLean, then that doesn't bode well for Arlington DA at 03 and above. |
That 03 team has been together for a long time. They are very talented and tight knit. I doubt they are going anywhere, although the McLean 03 ECNL team does need shoring up. |
You may want to double check the ECNL standings on that one friend. They're in second place Mid Atlantic. |
| I’ve seen them play. They are very good and have some girls committed to top schools (including a Florida State forward), but it is hard to say how good they are in comparison to other schools like Madison or Robinson when they don’t play each other. However, in the game I was at they were up 4-0 and put their bench in and it was a different game honestly. It will be interesting to see what the team looks like next year with the 02 and 03 girls supposedly doing DA. |
Yes, but when you see them LOVING the high school game and doing their "dress the same" routine during school and enjoying the accolades of a winning record, they might be reluctant to give that up for the remaining 2 or 3 years of high school. Once you get a taste for it (esp if they end up winning the championships this spring) it will be hard for them to give up. Would be nice if the DA would allow them to play HS. |
It didn't mean anything to my DD, so that is probably more of an individual decision. She said it was such bad soccer, it wasn't any fun to play, accolades or no accolades. |
I don't think this Arlington team is playing 'bad soccer'. |
