4th grade boys “ranking” girls

Anonymous
My daughter and a bunch of her friends were talking after school today about how several of the boys in their grade (of 80 kids) ranked the girls by “hotness, sportiness and how they act around boys”. I’m so upset that this is happening in 4th grade. I talked with the girls who think it’s stupid and apparently have been talking to their class advisor about it, but I could also tell that some of the girls were hurt about it and they said some of the other girls were even Moreno upset and were crying at school. I know kids are stupid and can be mean but this seems over the top for 9 & 10 year olds!

OP, if it makes you feel any better, girls do the same thing.

I am sure the girls in the class have neeeeever discussed which boy is the cutest.

That’s terrible.

I wonder if it’s worth digging up that WaPo article about the same thing happening at BCC and explaining that this ish happens but change is possible and maybe even brainstorm next steps? I realize my kids are older so my frame of reference is probably out of whack.

Don’t you think every man you pass does this to every woman they see? It’s bit going to end anytime soon. They should be counseled to keep these kinds of thought to themselves. It’s degrading.

That’s very different from ranking all the girls against each other and spreading it around publicly.

To you it may be, but perhaps not to all the boys.

Very different? Was that a joke?

Yes, it is very different.

They’re advanced! Most boys wait until MS to engage in this disgusting practice.

The students from Bethesda Chevy Chase High school are going to lower grades to teach them about this. Perhaps you should be in touch and it can spread to other schools in other areas.

The Washington Post article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/2019/03/26/teen-boys-rated-their-female-classmates-based-looks-girls-fought-back/?utm_term=.5a1716878ad0

One of the student leaders being interviewed and doing an awesome job:

Maybe they were “inspired” by the jerks at BCC?
