How much would you pay for a skirt?

Anonymous
I found a skirt I really love but it's $300. It's more of a party skirt and, let's face it, with a baby around it's not like I'm tearing up the party circuit these days. I could wear it for work but it's definitely not an every day wear. How much would you splurge on a pretty item? Just wondering as I debate the pros and cons of a splurge myself.

no friggin way. and i've been known to treat myself from time to time.

50 dollars would be my max

If you can afford it, go for it! You deserve it, momma!

You can't get a skirt that you'd want to put on for $50.00 -- that advice should be discarded. If I LOVED the skirt and I already had a cute top to pair it with and the shoes -- or had my eye on a top and shoes that were reasonably priced, I would buy it if I could afford it, and I wouldn't listen to what anyone here says (other than me). Even if you're not tearing up the party circuit now, if it's quality, you'll wear it again.

Good grief the preceding post was insanely pretentious.

I am pretty sure I have never paid more than $30 for a skirt.

I could see splurging up to $70 maybe for something maybe once in my lifetime. But I doubt it.

I would be more likely to pay that amount for a dress or pants but that is mainly because outside of work I don't wear skirts that often. If it is a skirt you love though I would splurge if you can afford it.

If I really liked it, I would buy it. Only you know if you can afford it.

I have seen $300 skirts I was sure would change my life if only... but it's not realistic for me. My max has probably been in the $170 range, with the norm closer to $70-90. At the moment, it has been a while.

Who sounds pretentious? Me, who doubts you can find a nice skirt for 50 bucks, or you, who boasts of never paying more than 30 (I wanna see that skirt) and would only splurge up to 70 for "someting maybe once in my lifetime". But, you add with a flourish, you doubt it.

How wonderfully sanctimonious you are.

The difference is that I did nothing to disparage those who choose to spend more. For me, that's just not in my cards. But your advice to ignore the person who suggested a lower price ceiling was insanely pretentious.

I don't think i even paid 300$ for a skirt only - for a skirt suite, yes (or close to 300$), but not for skirt only. Maximum? Not sure, it's been some time that i shopped for skirts - it's actually on my to do list now that my shape is stabilizing post baby, but i guess 80-90.

I'm sorry, but stating that you have never paid more than 30 bucks for a skirt, and that you could only see splurging up to 70 for (apparently) any one item in your lifetime (but yu doubt it) is indeed very disparaging to the OP. The poster who said "50 dollars would be my max" was not disparaging, but you were. I would add that I did not disparage her -- only her skirt -- and her advice to the OP. You disparaged me and the OP.

Again , she did not suggest to lower the price ceiling. She stated that she wouldn't spend more than 50 on herself and left it at that. She did not suggest that the OP spend less. You did. Because you're so much better than the rest of us who either have worked hard to make enough money to buy a nice skirt and/or are willing to make ourselves a priority, even as we try to be everything to everyone else.

If you LOVE it and can afford it, then go ahead and rock it. I personally could never spend that much, but agree it is hard to find a NICE skirt for under $50. That's why I only have 2 skirts!

I've been eyeballing a $70 skirt and a $90 pair of super-cute workout pants for a month now...waiting to see if they'll go on sale. I've never ever thought of spending $90 on workout wear, but this pair is soooo cute. I know I'm going to break down soon.

If I had $300 to burn and the skirt totally kicked ass, and I knew I would want to wear it whenever I had the opportunity to sport it...then yes, I would consider it. But I would probably go on a Starbucks fast and forgo deli lunches for a few weeks.
