Are you going and why?
How is the brochure on table better than the brochure you get in the mail? If you express interest in the school will the AO remember you? |
| Is this for Prep students or open to public? |
| Open |
| Do you have a list of the schools that will be there? Do you have to go to a private school to attend? |

Washington Area Independent School College Fair (WAIS)
Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at 06:00 PM until 09:00 PM Georgetown Preparatory School 10900 Rockville Pike N Bethesda, MD 20852 United States |
These points apply to all college fairs. You sign in at the tables you stop by, or your name badge is scanned (if you pre-register) so they will know you sought them out. It is even better if you chat with, and ask a question of the admissions rep (not something easily discerned from the website) as the better reps will take notes. You will get same mail, and perhaps some stuff more tailored to what the kid says they are interested in than if you don't go. This is a decent alternative to a campus visit to register interest, especially if finances constrain traveling all over the country. Parents should hang back, smile and let the kid do the talking. |
| Is it worth it to go? Has anyone been before? Was it worth it? |
| ITs not open to the public. Its hosted by independent schools for their students. |
My kid goes to a different school and it is posted to parents as an open invitation. |
I called Georgetown Prep to ask about it as my child was invited by a college to see them there, but my child does not go to a private school. Prep said that this college fair is for the schools that organized it (private schools) and not for kids who go to public school (where my child goes.) |
If your child was invited by a college, the college must not know that they are only allowing private school students. I think he should feel free to go. |

Admissions people loathe that fair. They have to park at Academy if the Holy Cross, lug their boxes to shuttle bus, and then stand at tables while people ignore them because their school isn’t in favor that second or swarm if they are.
Thank god the counselors give all the counselors a beer at the end once the families are out. College fairs are really odd. If you have a good amount of traffic, you never remember the kids who come to your table. A fair is not where you demonstrate interest. |
| First counselor reference was for the HS. Second was for admissions. |
Should I bring my checkbook?
|
Um, no. He needs a private school invite |
