Cardozo Feeder Pattern Middle School

Reminders (because we need lots of engagement on this issue)

"DCPS is conducting a public engagement process to determine if and when a new standalone middle school is needed for the Cardozo feeder pattern. Currently, Cardozo EC is a secondary school serving grades 6-12. If a new middle school were opened, the middle grades would phase out of Cardozo EC and Cardozo would become a 9-12 high school. The new middle school would feed Cardozo for high school."

1) The next Cardozo Feeder Pattern Middle School Planning Community Meeting on April 25 scheduled for 6PM-8PM at Garrison ES (1200 S St NW, Washington, DC 20009).

2) Lots of information can be found on https://dcpsplanning.wordpress.com/, including notes from previous meetings.

3) The Cardozo Feeder Pattern Middle School Planning Survey can be found here https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf0fD6USSHJIkiTLotf1EEOzLwxTfhupgEs0lNUDm8AHX0oBg/viewform

Banneker at Shaw is happening. The design build contract has been awarded. Time to start thinking about plan B.

Keeping the pressure up for a standalone or improvements is Plan B. That is what this is.

That there is some fine community engagement.

Bowser should be asked about breaking her promise to the Shaw neighborhood at every single public event in the future.

You should also continue (start?) sending emails, calling, engaging with ANC members, Councilmembers, Ed Board members, OSSE, DCPS, Mayors office, etc. Anyone you can think of who is in a position of influence. You do not have to wait until a meeting or a survey. You are not limited to one email, or one phone call. Share your thoughts as frequently as you want. If you aren't happy with the survey, don't just share that the survey is terrible- let them know what your thoughts and feelings on the subject matter. Keep wearing them down!

Muriel Bowser does not care about Shaw people.

I'm not sure who she cares about. She just got reelected running unopposed.

Council member White at yesterday's oversight hearing: I don't like the process by which the decision to move Banneker to Shaw was made, I am still looking into the issue, I am asking every question I can think of asking, but I am not sure what the Council will be able to do at this point.

Similar to confirming the Chancellor?

Right. Council is not willing to pick up these fights with the administration. They are going to defer to the Mayor.

If the Council overturns the mayor on education issues, they own the issue.

And no one in their right mind wants that because the problems (not just this one) are really hard to solve and progress takes many years.

Did White ask any questions of DGS on the decision to move Banneker to Shaw?
