Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| Can anyone offer recommendations for a good doctor who does CVS procedures? I've heard Dr. Stern at GIVF is great, but I live in metro DC and don't have a car. Is there anyone else who has as much experience and low rates of post-procedure miscarriages? |
| Not answering your question directly, but if you can afford it, I would metro to whichever VA metro makes sense and take a cab to Dr. Stern. He's that good. |
| I went to Dr Larsen at GW and was very pleased. |
| what about drs black & fries at WHC? |
| I didn't have a good experience with Dr Stern doing an amnio will never go back. I go to Dr Wapner he's in Phili or NY. |

If you're willing to drive to Phili, go see Dr. Baxter with Thomas Jefferson. He came HIGHLY recommended by my RE, whose wife had their first after the age of 40. Thomas Jefferson were CVS pioneers.

Dr Rondal Wapner is the go to if going to Phili. He was at Thomas Jefferson and pioneered the development of CVS while there. Ronald Wapner does CVS and SR, has offices in Phila and NYC (215) 762-3609 and is associated with Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in NYC |
| I would cab to and fro to see Dr. Stern. He is amazing. Great personality, obviously great at the procedure. Well worth the trouble and money. |
Can you say more? |

Dr Gallagher at Greater Washington Maternal Fetal Medicine was fantastic.

| Dr Stern lost sight of the needle during the procedure. The nurse had very concerned look/voice and was pointing out where the needle was. Either the baby or placenta was nicked. I ended up with a "bloody tap" , blood in the the fluid. A bloody tap increases the chance of a miscarriage. I did not lose the baby. However, because of the blood in the specimen we were not able to get results. He seemed very distracted and unaware during the procedure. |
| Dr. Charles Macri at GW. I've had two CVS procedures with him and highly recommend him. Great bedside manner and does a good job of explaining all aspects of the procedure. |
| Another recommendation for Dr Gallagher at Greater Washington Maternal Fetal Medicine. He performed CVS on my twins after a discouraging NT screen, and he was very calm & reassuring & walked us through the whole process. |
| Another rec for Dr. Gallagher at GWMFM. All the docs there (I've seen all 3) have a great bedside manner -- professional, reassuring, helpful. Their genetic counselor is wonderful too. GL! |
I'm sorry about your experience, but there are a million reasons why Dr. Stern might have "lost sight" of the needle that have nothing to do with distraction, lack of awareness, or negligence. It sounds like you are placing a highly negative spin on something that you were warned (as I was) happens in a certain number amnios. (Thus the nurse's concern) Would you rather the nurse was unconcerned??? You sound like women who blame their doctor whenever something unexpected, out of the ordinary, or confusing happens during a medical procedure ("He looked concerned/worried...and then x happened, thus x must be his fault, and I will never go back to him). Just silly. |
