Hilaria Baldwin - At it again

Honest question: what's wrong with her pretending to be Spanish? I can see how pretending to be a minority may hurt that minority group, but her thinking she’s a white immigrant from Spain hurts no one. I see no difference with trans people.

To the person saying Hillary's grandparents are from Spain, and her parents have some ties to Spain, the first 2 minutes of this video of her mom speaking tells you everything you need to know.

Can you please explain further?
I know who Hilaria is but I've never followed her (I clicked on the post because seeing the title in Recent Comments intrigued me) but I don't have the time to scan through 60+ pages, lol.

Is she not really Spanish?

Read the post above yours. Good explanation.

Well, that's why I asked... after reading that post.

However, I've scoured the internet and every single website... People, Hollywood Reporter, The New Yorker, etc. are still reporting as her being born in Spain; even as recent as yesterday!

Which is the reason for my post... I tried researching on my own after reading what the PP wrote and I still can't find a thing.

Is this something that only the incredible sleuths of DCUM have found, or is it also out there but just under the surface?

Can someone either give me the cliffs notes version or point me to a post that has more details?

While the post above mine has me intrigued, it's also very vague.

Well, first of all, she is lying. I think people just have a tendency to dislike and avoid liars. If Hilaria is not really from Spain, she is a pathological liar. I think it’s sad, while kind of shocking, that someone of Alec Baldwin’s celebrity status would be so naive or stoop to this level. Seems like he and his children may have been duped. Oh well, maybe he doesn’t care? It is just kind of bizarre that she would lie about where she was from when it’s so easy to figure out she is lying. She seems certifiable. Trans people also can cause lots of psychological harm to their families. However, it’s exceedingly rare that a person would date and then marry a trans person without being aware that their partner is trans. Alec Baldwin seems to believe this charlatan.

Her parents own a vacation home in Mallorca. While on vacation from going to medical school in the US her mother really did give birth to Hillary in Mallorca but Spain doesn't have birthright citizenship so it is unlikely she is a Spanish citizen.

She speaks Spanish well and has a very good accent. However, it is unlikely she would be able to sustain it over a long conversation. When being interviewed she uses filler phrases in Spanish. I recognize them because after spending a year in Spain studying abroad I could do the same along with added gestures and slight head movements that Spaniards made. What is ridiculous is that she pretends not to be a native English speaker and appears to search for words in English. It is sad she tries to hide the fact that her mother is an American doctor and has been very successful.

My neighbor is from Madrid, and I played a clip of her speaking and she said no way. She said if she had to guess it would be Mexican. Which basically means she learned a 2nd language in the US, like a lot of people do. If you speak English with a spanish accent, it means spanish is your first language. And we all know that didn't happen. Remember that clip somebody posted of her doing a cooking segment on TV where she said she couldn't remember the english word for "cucumber"? That is some next level crazy right there.

I can't believe she took this lie so far as to name her kids (all blonde and blue eyed) spanish names. That is WILD and extremely messed up.

I don't know. This sounds very Spain-Spanish to me, with the lisp:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA5PHzmAJyc

same with this one (she speaks longer): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2I_kujj45lc

A lot of the other videos with her on Spanish-language media are dubbed bc she was speaking English.

Nope. This was the clip I played for my neighbor. That is definitely not an accent from anywhere in Spain. I played it for my mom too, who is from Panama, and she said the same thing. People in Spain have a very different accent than other hispanic countries.

Also, hello, English is her first language. I don't care how many times she "vacationed" in Spain (which was apparently none) you wouldn't have a spanish accent when you speak english. I unfortunately had to spend lot of summers in Panama with my mom's family, and I didn't come back one summer speaking with a Panamanian accent for the rest of my life. That ain't how it works.

Yeah, I can't place this either. I learned Spanish in Spain as a native English speaker and have an ear for accents (pretty detailed!) nand can't really tell where this would be from. It is very obvious to me that this is a native English speaker mimicking an accent. And no judgement on that! I spoke like a pija Madrilena for a few years then spent about a decade in other Spanish speaking countries. My accent has shifted and will continue to shift depending who I am speaking with. BUT this is not a native accent at all. English is her first language and that is clear, which is why this is all so weird. For what it is worth, I have spent years abroad speaking exclusively Spanish. My native tongue, English, sounds like American English. Speaking a second language and going on vacation doesn't turn me into Penelope Cruz. The MOST I can imagine is an occasionally messed up one-off word and even that is rare and only after like, months of not speaking English at all. She lives in an English speaking world, get real.

I also think it is telling in both these clips she is using extremely basic vocabulary and scurrying away from the camera ASAP. As a major attention whore, this is basically the only time you see her not wanting to engage, when she has to engage in Spanish. Her language skills here don't amount to much more than being able to order a glass of wine and some chorizo.

This. This is immediately apparent. It's decent mimicry but she is never able to speak in above a 6th grade level for any sustained amount of time. Honestly, if her Spanish is decent and she can teach it to her kids, she should be proud of the fact she is an Anglo-American who is passing on multiple languages to her kids and should work on having a bilingual household. But this farce is just ludicrous.

Ok, so does nobody else in the media realize that she's perpetrating a fraud?

It seems like some tabloidy magazine like OK magazine would be all over this.

Celebrity journalism does not exactly maintain high reporting standards . My guess is that she told some reporter that she was born in Mallorca and that her mom was Spanish, and then it just got repeated/cited by most of the other reporters who wrote about her.

Her mother is absolutely not Spanish. Her father (Hilara's maternal grandfather) was an art professor in MA and her mother (Hilaria's maternal grandmother) was born in MA. Her obit does say that she and her husband led international art tours for many years all over Europe.

It would be very difficult to prove whether or not Hilaria was actually born in Mallorca - that would be something that an investigative journalist could track down, but hopefully investigative journalists are working on FAR more important stories than this.

It does seem very strange to me that her mother, an American doctor, would choose to have a baby in Mallorca, but there's no reason that it couldn't be true, I suppose.

PP - nothing against having babies in Mallorca! It's just the logistics: it seems strange that a professional woman would be able to take the time from her career to fly to another country and have a baby. In one video she talks about working in the US when her children were little (she explains that she split her position with another female medical resident and she would work for a month, and then the other resident would work for a month): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-fuBFER5YI

She was in medical school when Hilary was born. In the US.

Yeah, it really doesn't matter. There are I think one or two posters that are bizzarely fixated on this woman and just keep bumping the thread back. Such a random person to fixate on.

I’m personally interested because as a minority I find it fascinating the lengths she will go to to try to be exotic or different.
