As for staff morale, they’ve all been complaining of burn out since 2020. TBH most parents are totally over the “burnt out” teacher rhetoric esp at a school like Navy where teachers are spoiled by parents and the PTA well beyond what most other teachers across the district get. Half of them are checked out anyways and maybe it’s better for them to leave if they are not going to properly teach and engage students.

This is a great school for teachers who love to teach. The parents will take care of you like no other school in the area. If you are a teacher you should seek Navy out.

Please stop acting like Starbucks and muffins is spoiling teachers just STOP you sound entitled and condescending. Maybe we should talk about whiny, checked out parents constantly demeaning educators... rumors are NAVY parents are extremely entitled. I'd keep looking teachers!

LOL just Starbucks and muffins? Try $1000s in gift cards over the course of the year for holidays, birthdays and EOY. Try an entire week of teacher appreciation full of daily catered meals, ice cream trucks, coffee stations, dessert bars, entire gift card bouquets, not to mention all the other gifts given independently by students. Try a form filled out by every teacher stating their likes and dislikes so gifts can be bought accordingly.

Parents and the PTA accommodate all of this and much more to keep the teachers happy, but it is unappreciated by some. Navy does have some amazing teachers, but a few of definitely grown complacent and complain nonstop about burn out. It’s time to grow up and be grateful. There are so many other schools in our district who don’t get even a small fraction of the gifts and resources that Navy teachers get.

Maybe they don't want gobs of food and trinkets. Maybe they want you to trust them to do their jobs. Maybe they want you to take all that money and ask them what they want...what they actually need...they can buy their own snacks.

They fill out a wishlist for the PTO for Christ’s sake and have long lists on Amazon for wishlists. Don’t you dare tell me teachers aren’t getting what they want.

Someone higher up said they got 80K worth of projectors. That's pretty cool. I dare you to cut out all the BS snacks and gift cards and only spend PTO money on items to be used for instruction by the teachers for the kids. The lazy ones will always be lazy, can't do much about that, but you can improve how you spend your precious dollars on the others.

"The lazy ones will always be lazy, can't do much about that"

That's the problem! We should be able to do something about that. Instead they go after a new principal. They've shown more dignity and grace towards a drunk driver than to an honest man trying to improve the school for the community. You navy teachers are disgusting. We'll see who shows up at the meeting to take down an innocent man trying to do his job.

Don’t forget the group also includes some of the parents who gossip with those teachers. Pass the popcorn!!!

Who’s talking about muffins and Starbucks? Try over $200 in cash or gift cards for the holiday and end of year gifts. The PTO makes teachers have wishlists which the room moms to get a bunch of stuff from. Try gift cards at every godd*mn holiday and even a giant birthday gift. Try gift cards for teacher appreciation week. Try an Amazon wishlist posted at open house that parents are encouraged to get stuff from. Try book fair gifts. Try going to a Title 1 school and see what you get. STFU.

LOL....ok sure.

So you don’t get a big fat gift card or various gift cards for a holiday gift (from your wishlist for the PTO which lists your favorite things such as restaurants and stores?) and an end of the year gift from your class? And you don’t get a birthday gift? Or a teacher appreciation week with a gift card bought? Or any gifts throughout the year? Do you have an Amazon wish list for your class?

You are so full of sh*t. Every room parent at Navy organizes these things.

Anonymous wrote:Talking with other parents I can tell you this has been a tough few years for us (and especially our children) at Navy because of the laziness of these very teachers that are now complaining about this principal and parents. We have had to teach our children most of the subject material ourselves because the teachers just throw up videos and expect the kids to self teach. There are definitely some amazing teachers but lately it seems that we are homeschooling because our DC has nobody at school to learn from. At the same time the teachers have taken a harsh tone in how they talk to us and our children. If you are burnt out and looking to leave then please do so and make room for better educators. Most of us parents are tired of doing your job and then having to buy you gifts on top of that.

Omg yes!!! After the virtual year, we noticed a lot of the lazy teachers just continued to use the county slides they were given that year. I think the real issue is the principal is finally getting on them and asking them to step up their game and they can’t handle it. We are excited for the turnover!

Speak for yourself. My kids teachers have been great this year and not too many slides. I appreciate the teachers. The grass is not always greener. Stop teacher bashing. I am starting to think that you all don't even have kids at Navy and are jealous and being saboteurs and trying to steal our wonderful teachers.

Lol, what a conspiracy theory! Need I remind you that you "wonderful" teachers started the bashing. Can't handle the heat when the scrutiny is on you huh? Don't kid yourself. . . parents are having to do all the teaching at home now. It is absolutely ridiculous. Navy slideshow teachers are completely checked out, spoiled rotten and lazy. And you teachers 100% know which ones of you are doing this! I am refraining from naming names, but even some of the good teachers I have talked to complain about the slideshow teachers. If you engaged our children with the same passion you put into firing an innocent man, then you might actually do a good job. Still waiting to hear some legit complaints about this new principal. Can't state any on here because you know it would make you look like a fool to say, "we're mad at him because he's asking us to do our jobs."

This EXACTLY. Luckily the principal has parent supporters who won’t fall for the bs that is going on now. Face it - many of the teachers under Jon got very complacent and lazy and used to doing what they want. It certainly wasn’t best practice for the kids. Good riddance.

Who is trying to get him fired? The teachers?

yes

With the help of a few crazy parents who were Jon supporters.

It’s all just a Hail Mary to get the former AP back as Principal next school year. This has been the mission all along with the faux outrage. Whoever is involved with destroying the new principal’s reputation over absolutely nothing should be ashamed of themselves. Just because you liked the former guy doesn’t mean you get to drag another man’s reputation though the mud. The optics are not looking good for those who started this mess with lies and defamation of a man’s character. Go look in the mirror and reflect on what you’ve done.

+1 it also looks racist

That was 100% my thought.

I don't get it.

It’s interesting that some group wants a white male, drunk driver, back as the leader of the school.

Seriously someone should show this thread to Reid so she knows what her staff is dealing with this is a toxic environment.

I worked with Mr. Simms-Smith at a previous school and I can’t believe all of this hate for him. I can’t think of a single person who didn’t think highly of him. He was kind, patient, and thoughtful. He's not going to do everything one wants, I’m sure. But he’s not one to dismiss you out-of-hand or speak rudely. He has realistic expectations for teachers and students. “We” were sorry to have him leave, but happy for his promotion. A genuinely good person, IMO.

Funny how 3 post within 4 minutes of each other. 2 of them claiming not to be a navy teacher. Lol. Clearly one person (most likely a navy teacher) trying to bury the posts about racism and the fact that they are attacking an innocent man. No one is buying it.

It's a select few morons with nothing better to do than stir the pot. The majority of people are very nice and would never say the stuff that these idiots are spewing.

It is probably like 3 people. One of them is probably the lady who cried when she was told that the old principal would not be returning. It's probably also an evil plot by saboteurs in lesser schools trying to poach our teachers.

Another nice conspiracy attempt Ms. Saboteur. Keep trying maybe the next when will get traction.

I taught at a MONEY school for years. I made a few thousand extra every year just from the gifts. And everything your heart desired from the weekly wishlist was provided. Not to mention the constant supply of food and over-the-top events. You can’t even imagine.

Most of the parents were wonderful, but there was a big clique of parents who ran that school. Work turned in on Friday better come home graded in the Tuesday folder or there’d be a complaint call. An email sent at 9 pm better be answered in multiple paragraphs by 9 am or there’d be a complaint call. Lots of teachers put up with it for the perks.

I spent a lot of time in the corporate world, not being micromanaged, so I had no patience for such BS. So, I left to teach in a title one school. Virtually no gifts anymore, but lovely parents, who are just trying their best to give their kids a good start in life. I am so much happier without all of the “stuff”. Love these kids and families.

You can get a lot of goodies from many of these upper income schools, but you can pay for it with your soul.

We don’t want the new principal to run. We want him to stay and stand up to those that would tear down his reputation for no other reason than the teacher entitlements. Please do show Reid these posts. They don’t make you teachers look good at all and will generate sympathy for your malicious cause.
