| My OB GYN told me it’s not really an issue but meanwhile WebMD and babycenter seem to differ. Does anyone have a view of whether this is really an issue? If yes did you take progesterone supplements or anything else? |
|
Yes, it’s an issue. 11 days is borderline. I took vitamin b6 to lengthen mine and it worked - I actually got pregnant the month I tried it. My luteal phase the cycle before was only 8 days.
As someone told me when I was dealing with this, ob’s are experts in the last 8 weeks of pregnancy, and RE’s are experts in the first 8 weeks. I would not look to an ob-gyn for conception advice. It’s not their area of expertise. |

In a vacuum, it may not be and it depends on how short it actually is. But you don't really know what else may be a contributing factor unless you go through the whole barrage of testing.
FWIW, I have a 9 day luteal phase and it wasn't an issue for me. I have 2 kids - the first was a total surprise, the second took us 8 months to conceive. I was 37 at that point and after 4 months of trying, I saw an RE and did all the testing. All of my stats were normal for my age. The RE didn't have any concern about my luteal phase and didn't suggest that I take supplements to lengthen it. The one bright side of having a shorter luteal phase is that I didn't have to wait that long between ovulation and my period. My "2-week wait" was more like a week and a half at most. That said, everyone's experience is different and a RE is the best person to provide advice on how to get pregnant (not the OB). |
| I had succes (twice) with tracking and test strips. |

I also have an 11 day LP. Hasn't really been an issue for me.
Once I figured out I was ovulating later than I had been thinking, I got pregnant very easily. PG w baby #3 now. I never had to go on any supplements but I did go on progesterone once I got a positive hpt just to be safe. |
| Thanks everyone - to clarify do things like Vitamin B6 and progesterone supplements lengthen your LP by making you ovulate earlier? Or no changes to when you ovulate - it just lengthens your luteal phase by adding extra days to your total cycle time? |
| It was for me. Hard to get pregnant and dustpan pregnancy if I did. After several years/losses I was prescribed progesterone and that worked! |

| I had a 10 or 11 day luteal phase and got pregnant 3 times. I did take the B6 and I think it helped me to ovulate a day or 2 earlier. |
| I got pregnant on my own with an 11 or 12 day LP but it took time - 10 months of trying in my late 20s. When it came time to TTC #2, I needed supplemental progesterone to lengthen my luteal phase as I was down to 7-9 days just a few years later in my early 30s. Got pregnant my 3rd month on progesterone, stayed on it until end of 1st trimester, now almost 20 weeks and doing well. |
20:18 here. For me it did both (ovulated earlier and added a few extra days to the end of my cycle). Prior to progesterone I was ovulating around CD21 and getting my period on CD28-30. Definitely not good. I looked back at my 3 cycles on progesterone. My first cycle I ovulated on CD21 and got my period on CD33. My second I ovulated on CD18 and got my period on CD30. My third cycle I ovulated on CD15 and got pregnant. |

I have a short LP. It means I have a 24 day cycle, which sucks, but it wasn't a fertility issue for me.
|
| Nope, not an issue. |
| Not an issue, and mine was shorter than yours (about 9/10 days). |
| I also have a short luteal phase of 10-11 days and a long cycle- ovulate on day 24+. I’ve had 4 kids so I guess not a huge issue although I did take progesterone with the last 2 as a precaution though my doctor said it wouldn’t make a difference. I did take B6 also just in case it could help. |
