| My engagement ring was stolen years ago and at this point I can't imagine buying another really pricey diamond. But I love diamonds and I am starting to want another ring. The problem is I have huge hands and I would like to have a ring that looks good on them. Thinking about moissonite. Can you tell - and by can YOU tell is how obvious is it? I can tell when I compare side-to-side but I wonder if I wasn't so focused on the stone itself everyday if it would bother me. |
| I have one that's almost a decade old at this point. No one has ever commented on my ring one way or the other. If they did specifically ask, I would be truthful. I think diamonds are pretty enough but the cost is a complete scam... and I didn't want my now-husband spending our money on a ring (we already owned a home together when we decided we were ready for kids and got engaged). |
| Thanks PP. when YOU look at it, does it look non-diamond like to you? does the extra/white sparkle ever bother you? |
| What carat size are you looking at? |
| I know several wealthy women who wear very real looking crystals that pass for diamonds. They admit it privately. It turns out that they are super smart. They can afford a lot, and don't. |
I think I'd prefer to do around 2.5-3 carats. It is more obvious when they are bigger? |
The bigger you go the more obvious it is. I wouldn't do it over 1.5ct |
What kind of crystal? I really like rose-cut and other more antique cut diamonds and wonder if that means I also like crystal? |
That's really helpful. Part of the reason I am considering moissonite is because of the cost differential at such a large (to me) size. Thinking about lab generated diamonds as well, and although they are WAY less expensive that's still out of my range price wise. |
| I have moissonite earrings that are about a carat each. My engagement ring is a 1.5ct ideal cut diamond. I cannot tell the difference even under bright lights. I think you can usually tell diamonds vs a cheaper alternative based on the quality of the setting. No one would put a diamond in a cheap or flimsy setting. Make sure you get the same setting and prongs that a diamond would have and an untrained eye will never know. |
The bigger per diamond, right? Maybe in that case, I'd get a band of some .50 carats... think that would still be obvious |
That is so interesting- I can tel the difference with some online in the sense that they are more sparkly/rainbowy versus the deeper color and sparkle of a diamond. |
| I see pics on pricescope, and the real diamonds on there are sparkly/rainbowy. Not sure if that indicates a fake. |
| Complete off topic- where can I buy the best quality moussenite studs? What is the right price for good quality let’s say 2 carat ones? |
| I don't know where the best quality is - I imagine they are rated, right? BUt I have seen at Charles and Colvard. However Lightbox also is in the game with lab created diamonds/ |
