129.2 on 3/11
132.4 on 3/18 135.4 on 3/22 Is this possible? Just water weight? Weigh-ins were all first thing in the morning post-bathroom and naked. I am working to get my eating back on track and drink more water and unsweetened tea but is it actually possible to go up 6.2lbs in 11 days? I won't say I only ate health foods but the idea that I ate 21700 extra calories during that time (that's nearly a 2000-calorie surplus every day) seems impossible. Any tips to re-set my eating habits? My BMI is either high normal or low overweight depending on if you round my height up or down to the nearest inch and whether you look at the 3/11 or 3/22 weight.... |
| Could be the time of the month. Maybe weigh yourself more often over a longer period of time to see if a pattern emerges. |
| Chinese Food, Mexican, Soup, Grilled Food ... sauces. Lots of this could be contributing to *sodium* weight gain. |
|
could be your cycle. your body holds onto water during certain times.
Here is the impact of those phases on a woman's bodyweight via water retention. Early follicular: lowest Late follicular: estrogen causes water retention due to a change in sodium handling Early luteal: low Late luteal: drop in progesterone (which blocks the mineral corticoid receptor) causes a rebound water weight gain also due to a change in sodium handling. |

That seems like a lot to me, I can vary a two lbs day to day, but that much weight over a relatively short period is surprising. It's like an extra 10% of your body weight.
I'm surprised at your BMI too, though, are you quite petite? |
I'm short but have never been particularly small in frame. I have big/muscular butt and legs though my arms are fairly slim. I usually wear a petite curvy pant, size 4-8 depending on cut and brand, and small/xs shirts. I don't think I could have small calves or thighs unless I was terminally ill or something and massive weight loss is not my goal...I would like to be under 130 and preferably closer to 125. It's also less than 5% of body weight but I agree that's kind of a lot. Not sure if the scale was off on one of them. Trying to drink more water. |
this is fascinating! so does that go right after period ends - right before ovulation - right after ovulation - right before period? or am i reading it wrong? |
| It is not possible to gain that much fat in 11 day. But if you eat more carbs or change your diet you can certainly retain more water. I can easily go up 4 lbs after a heavy meal of over the holidays. But it comes right off, usually have a day where I peeva lot, once I eat normally again. |
| To lose the bloat eat a lot of protein, vegetables and drink lots of water |
|
I and a 54yo male and track my weight and workouts daily. Over the past 2 years...
Biggest ONE day gain: 6.8lbs Biggest ONE day loss: 5.6lbs Biggest SEVEN day gain: 8.6lbs Biggest SEVEN day loss: 11.2lbs I have no explanation. |
| OP here--131.4 this morning. So maybe a lot of retained water was doing it (I did eat some salty food earlier in the week) or just an inaccuracy in my digital scale. Now to keep up the fruit, vegetables, protein, and lots of water....plus other food in moderation. |
| I see your weight went back down but I was about to suggest your scale was broken or off in some way. Last spring I was truly puzzled when my eating and workout habits and measurements were all exactly the same yet my scale was showing weirdly high weights. I am always between 101-104 and the scale was showing like 110-111. I picked it up one day and noticed one of the sensors was falling out of the bottom and had cracked- bought a new one that day, stepped on it: 103. So I just had a busted scale. |
My swings aren't quite so great (I'm smaller than you I assume, as a small female) but it is kind of amazing what the fluctuations are. |
| Are you eliminating normally? Sometimes things can back up and add weight... This happens to me and the scale goes up. |
| Are you the 2 lb. poster?? |
