Has anyone used the laundry service SudShare?

Anonymous
I just read about this service on another thread and am very intrigued. You bag up your laundry, request pick-up using their app, and they return it the next day. They charge $1 per pound. I'm considering trying it because we spend SO MUCH time doing laundry on the weekend that could be used for other stuff. Anyone have any experience with it?

That was probably me. I’ve used it twice. It’s so easy. You can request what detergent they use (from a list). The app keeps you updated. I had different sudsters each time both did a great job.

I haven't used the service but have used services like it.

Same price point, same idea.

Ran into a couple issues with something with red dye getting into laundry and something with a dark blue dye. I was lucky that it effected only some towels and a couple pieces of clothing. I didn't have items with either colors in my load so it seems they mix loads though I have no idea how then they would manage to get right laundry back to each person.

Wow I’m intrigued, esp by the air dry option. Has anyone used that?

So how much does a full load of laundry weigh, ballpark?

How much laundry makes a "full load" depends on the size, or capacity, of your washing machine. Low-capacity top-loaders may accommodate only 6 pounds of clothing to be full. Medium-capacity top-loading washing machines can usually tolerate 7–8 pounds. The highest capacity top-loaders might do well with as much as 12–15 pounds. Front-loading washing machines often can hold as much as 18 pounds of clothing.

The other approach is to estimate the weight based on the total clothing items in the load. To give you an idea of how much a typical load weighs, the following items all together weigh about 10 pounds:

Seven pairs/sets of underwear
Seven pairs of socks
Five short-sleeve T-shirts
Two long-sleeve shirts
One sweatshirt or sweater
Two pairs of jeans or four pairs of shorts
One sheet set
One towel

I saw this in the other thread and downloaded the app. Too bad OP isn't getting "credit" for us trying it out.

I currently bag and drop off my laundry to a service near my home, also charging $1 a pound. They offer pickup / drop off services but I could never get through to a person to schedule the delivery. This is a large business that still operates like a mom & pop, so I like them but it's a hassle. Willing to try sudsy and if it's not good, at least I have a fall back.

Does anyone know if you can sub your own detergent if you provide it? I have a strong preference there.

Ooh, that makes it even more attractive to me.

I just looked it up and...I guess I can't get my mind around this. Either sending out my own laundry to some random's house, or taking in some random's laundry to my own home and machines!

A laundry service, I can understand-but not someone else's house and car. What about fleas and bedbugs???

I'm fine with outsourcing some things, just not my laundry I guess. Pity the poor person who'd have to wash my gross work uniforms!

I'm assuming that if you have items that are hung to dry you don't send them? I'm fairly picky about laundry and hang many things to dry - is this something they would do?

Eh we get in rando cars and sleep in rando houses.

But yeah, i get sleeved by commercial washers but at least I see those. This just vanished into the ether.

I’d be interested in this service if it was associated with a dry cleaner or laundromat. It seems gross to me for some random person to take the laundry to their own house and do it there.

I was one of the PPs really excited about this, but now you guys are making me rethink it. What I liked is they seem to do more personalized options (detergent, hang dry) than the dry cleaning places that offer this.
