I’m doing a low carb, 1300 calorie a day diet created by a Dietitian. Im short and not super active so the calorie count is about right for weight loss.
Im losing weight between .5-2lb a week consistently, closer to 1 lb. prior to this plan, I lost 10lb on weight watchers and plateaued for 6 months. On the new plan, I’ve lost 15 lbs in 90 days. I physically feel better - I can move easier, keep up with my kids etc. my skin looks better but: I’m now struggling with insomnia I’ve had 3 infections, 2 colds, and 1 stomach flu in 3 months I never got sick previously. What should I be doing to adjust? I am pretty happy with the weight loss. I am less than 10lbs to goal. (35lb total loss from obese to healthy BMI) |
| Lmao eat some food |
| Are you eating enough vegetables? How much fat are you eating? |
|
The stomach flu is probably not related and it's cold/flu season--people around office are dropping like flies. What are these infections? Are they related to the colds?
That aside, incorporate exercise. Yes, weight loss is 90% diet but there are many benefits of exercise. |
| Eat more fruit, and less meat and cheese. Seriously... when will this idiotic low carb/keto cult of idiocy end?! |
| Op here - I eat tons of veggies, 2 pieces of fruit a day, 2 fat portions (oil, butter, avocado). Lean protein. I cut almost all flour / starch out. |
| OP what was your starting weight? |
| I think you should modify the diet to include more carbs and calories for two-three weeks with as much long duration, low intensity exercise (nice hikes) as you have time for and see how you feel. |
| Op here -165 start; current: 138; goal 125-130 (pre baby weight). I’m only 5 ft 1. |
| From personal experience, insomnia is a sign your calories are too low. This may also weaken your immune system. Try and see if doubtable still lose, albeit a bits lower, on a couple hundred calories more a day. |

Add potassium & magnesium supplements, it will help with sleep and general well feeling.
Review your macros, you may need to reduce your carb intake a bit. If you are hovering around 40g net carbs, you are staying in constant transition and will cause a lot of the symptoms you mention. |
| Your body is telling you that low carb isn't good for you. Also, calories should be higher and you should increase your exercise. |
I agree on supplements. Take potassium and a multivitamin in the morning, omega3 at lunch, and a cal-mag a night. Magnesium really cures my insomnia. I have similar stats to you, and cut out breads, pasta and simple carbs last fall. I feel great. |
| Stop doing the freaking fad diets!! |
| If you ' physically feel better' but get sick more often (I really doubt you 'never got sick previously'), did it occurr to you that it could just be a coincidence? You should ask your dietician or another doctor, not DCUM. You'd better make sure there's nothing else going on. I don't think 1300 cal is too low for you. How many carbs do you eat daily? |
