Will you change clubs this Summer and why?

We are likely going to change clubs in large part due to a pending move from one side of DC to the other but also because the existing club was a bit of a cluster@#$ as far as administration was concerned.

Anyone else changing and why?

Yes likely for a better team

We are in a different part of the country. We changed clubs because we felt like my son had been pigeonholed and they weren’t looking at him objectively during tryouts. We didn’t want a third year with the same coach who wasn’t teaching him very much. Plus the coach didn’t even realize he was going into high school this year.

He started to attend practices with a team at another club and really liked it and felt like he had learned more in one practice than he had in the previous year.

We are moving next year for u13. We have been with our club since u9. The lack of communication and transparency about next years roster have us fed up with the one sided loyalty. We will be trying out for a few N. Virginia clubs this spring.

I've now heard this more than once. pigeon-holing is bad, should have left after 1st or 2nd year

We love our current Club, third one we've been at, 2 kids. Everyone is very happy finally. We've been here 2 years, but next year my oldest child's practice slot will be way too late. We live a 40 min drive away and as a young Fall Bday he will bein 8th grade next year having to wake up at 6am. It's a no-go to get him after 10pm on school nights.

Unfortunately, that means his younger sibling has to leave too because he definitely can't wait around the field until 9:45pm.

We will be looking at Clubs closer to home, but I am not happy with the options, especially the one closest to us. It sucks and I wish they would move the practice times earlier.

Yes because our TD quit and went to another club.

Yes, because they won't openly disclose the roster OR coach. At first I thought it was a one year mishap, but now I know it's a strategy. We had moved thinking it would be a higher level team and coaching, but our former club was much better. Coaches were announced ahead of tryout dates and the kids who made the team - the roster in fact - was posted for everyone to see. I don't like feeling swindled, and then we get tricked onto a roster and coach we would never have agreed to.

From my experience, the scenario has always been players/families leaving the coach, not the club. We have stayed because of a coach and we have also left because of a coach.

No. We actually left because of a Club. The environment was awful. The parents were awful and their type-A behavior was in direct relation to the environment set by the Club. The kids were also snotty---also a direct result of the self-entitlement and their parents blowing smoke up their asses. The style of play also sucked, glorified kickball.

Is it safe to guess the club is BRYC?

So how many of you that are leaving clubs escalated to the coach/TD etc. Did you share your concerns? If you didn't, the situation is just as much your fault.

Not always. Sometimes it just isn't a good fit. If there is something you are unhappy about that the coach/TD might not be aware of, then by all means it is only fair to talk to them first and give them a chance to address the problem. But there are times you just realize the coach/TD/Club's philosophy or way of doing things is just not something you agree with. In that case it serves no purpose to complain about it IMO. The club can't and shouldn't change the way they do things just to satisfy one player or parent. So it's best to just leave amicably at the end of the year without burning any bridges.
