I have an almost 5 year old and am due with #2 in April. We've had the same nanny since #1 was 4 months old and absolutely love her. I will be home on mat leave through the summer, so my nanny won't be responsible for both kids until #1 starts K in the fall, which runs from 8:30am to 3pm. DH or I will take #1 to school and nanny will just need to pick him up, and then be with both kids from 3-6:30pm when we get home for the day.
First off, just confirming it is fair to give our nanny her pay increase once she starts watching both kids in September, not once #2 is born in April, correct? Second, what is a fair pay increase when the nanny will really only be watching two kids for 3.5 hours per day max. There will of course be sick days and breaks, but there may also be a couple days where DS does aftercare and stays at school until 5pm. What have others done in a situation like this? |
Other people post their questions concerning nannies on the nanny forum. |
1- no, you should increase some immediately, unless youre literally going to have her never touch the infant or do a single thing with it, which is not accurate 2- youre really keeping the nanny over the summer??? 3- we cant gauge what the increase is when we dont know your base pay |
How much is she making now? By the time I had my second my nanny was already making 23/hr after giving her a 1 dollar raise for 3 years. I told her 25/hr was my ceiling for two kids and I wouldn't be able to give her annual increases after that. She happily accepted the 25/hr and has stayed with us for 2 years now at that rate. I'm expecting a decent raise this year so I might be able to give her a bigger than usual bonus at Christmas though. |
O hope you boss sets a ceiling on your salary. Two kids should be a minimum of $28/hr. |
Go back to the nanny forums where everyone makes $45/hr with minimal experience. There's ceilings on any and every job. Troll. |
Most employers who cap salary start providing better benefits in lieu of another raise. That may be $100/month for insurance, an extra 3 days PTO, an hour off (paid) as an early start to every weekend Friday afternoon or late start to the week Monday morning. You don’t retain employees indefinitely with the status quo. |
Wow. What a liar you are. |
Why do you post this on every single question in this forum? This IS a nanny forum. |
$30/hr. Two kids are a lot of work. If you can't afford to pay livable wage, stay home and take care of your own kids. |
$30/hr/57k is on the high end. In our neighborhood in Alexandria, the going rate for multiple kids is $19-23/hr. |
You don't need a nanny indefinitely, usually only a few year and plenty of jobs limit pay increases (like government/school jobs) |
People above are nuts. I pay $19/hour for two kids in bethesda. Range among my friends is $18-$22. |
What’s your point? Cheap ppl pay cheap wages. |
The expected increase for a new baby is about $5/hour among the more professional type nannies. Of course you expect some sort of training and experience with infant care. |
