Now that it's not going to NY...

Hogan, who said his administration has talked with Amazon representatives and is planning to meet with the company about moving to Maryland.

"We have been in contact with Amazon and anticipate a meeting," Shareese Churchill, a spokeswoman for Gov. Hogan, told WTOP.

Hans Riemer, Montgomery County Council member, told the radio station he asked county economic development officials to contact Amazon as objections to the New York site grew.

Of course they are. They have been very anti-business and that is why everyone has left and few come so they are desperate for the tax money.

? NYC is not exactly "business friendly", yet even Trump has his business HQ there.

Isn't that too close to the VA HQ?

If your business is NYC real estate, it kinda makes sense to have your HQ there...

In any event, it is inconceivable that Amazon would put their second HQ in MD when they have on in Crystal City. Totally redundant. If they want more people in this area, they'll just add to their existing HQ in Crystal City.

It isn't about the tax incentives for MD, its probably the employment laws which are very pro-employee.

MD isn't the only one reaching out. I don't know why this is a surprise.

As the richest state in the United States .. Md has plenty of tax revenue

Yes, but they do not use it wisely so there is always a need for more.

This is the current speculation that they will just add. They have offices all over so they will just keep expanding those.

They have a lot of business in NY so it made sense. The sad thing is that those fighting against it just lost a lot of money and jobs for the area and NY isn't going to take that tax money and spend it as they no longer will have the Amazon income to be able to spend it. The logic makes no sense.

If Amazon was smart they would go to Hagerstown. A warehouse distribution hub close enough to DC and Baltimore (harbor) but inexpensive and has beautiful open mountain valley land.

If you're trying to completely destroy Hagerstown for the people who live there right now, dumping 25,000 $150K jobs into would certainly do it.

Because almost overnight, no one currently living in Hagerstown would be able to continue doing so.

Plus, the Port of Baltimore isn't a factor. 95% of the cargo moved through there is automobiles, natural gas, coal, or petroleum, or industrial materials from Europe. Very little in the way of household consumer products come through east coast ports. That stuff is all west coast, coming from China.

There are not $150K jobs for all 25,000... you are dreaming if you think Amazon pays everyone that. These are not all tech jobs and they only pay some that much.
