Damascus teen to be tried as a juvenile

Anonymous
He is a juvenile.

What's outrageous is that minors only get tried as adults if they're poor. No minor should be tried as an adult.

The lynch mob will not be happy.

It was unclear from the article whether the other three will still be tried as adults or if a decision has yet to be made. Is the 15 yr old defendant the youngest, because that ways heavily for juvenile court.

And he still claims he wa victimized as a Freshman. What happened to that investigation?

Prosecutor is still deciding.

Good, he is a juvenile.

If you bothered to read anything about brain development or even just spent 1 hour with some teenagers, you’d always advocate that juveniles need to be tried as juveniles, no matter what the crime.

I am going to disagree. These boys ruined the lives of 4 boys by assaulting/raping them. Sending them to juvenile detention until they are 18 is not enough of a consequence for their actions.

But even if he did, th judge would ultimately decide. It was the judge who ordered the first defendant back to juvenile court.

I doubt this will change your op, but they can be held until 21 per the WUSA article posted above.

It’s until 21, not 18

So none of the teens here—neither the victims nor the perpetrators—have any hope for growth, resolution or redemption. At 15-16 years old, we should give up on all of them because their lives are over.

He's 15. I'm ok with this.

You can't rehabilitate a sex offender. I certainly wouldn't want him in class with my daughter or son.

We already had one experience in MS where a boy placed his hands up my daughter's friends skirt. This occurred during class. returned after a few days to a new schedule - ended up in my daughter's history class

I'm doubtful he'll be receiving any awards for being a supporter of women's rights.

Even if therapy is consistent, they cannot be in a normal setting. We do everything in our power NOT to protect the innocent ones who just want to learn in a safe environment.

Yes. He should be tried as a juvenile, because he is a juvenile.
