| I'm having a hard time finding a brand with high-quality ingredients that include grain. |
|
I assume you are concerned about the taurine issue vis-a-vis the news reports that came out awhile back.
We are continuing to feed our dog Nulo. Although it is grain-free, the legumes are not among the first five ingredients, and it has added taurine. For good measure, I add roasted or boiled chicken to the food a few times a week. |
| Yes to chicken and you can also add some kelp. |
|
OP wants a food with gains correct? I'm assuming b/c of the studies now showing grain free diets have a risk of heart disease. http://vetnutrition.tufts.edu/2018/06/a-broken-heart-risk-of-heart-disease-in-boutique-or-grain-free-diets-and-exotic-ingredients/
OP - I'm having the same problem. Just got a puppy and our vet said to make sure she has kibble that includes grain. |
| We have the added problem of a dog who can’t tolerate chicken. We had great success with Zignature but have now switched to Mature’s Best lamb and rice until they have sorted out the issues with taurine and grain-free foods. It’s one of the few brands that has grain but no chicken. |
| I don't know, OP. We switched to Fromm which is not grain free but does have potatoes which might be a problem, the way that lentils and peas might be. Or might not. |
NP. Lentils and peas are legumes and potatoes are starch. Legumes can contribute to inflammation, and starch is just empty carbs/ filler. |

I have a dog with intestinal issues, and we spent a year finding a kibble that worked for her. She’s now been on taste of the wild pacific stream for 10+ years. I am terrified to try to find another food that doesn’t upset her, though the vet is pressing us to. Really though, she’s 14. I feel like at this point there is no sense in searching for anything else.
I want to switch the 4 year old dog, but I don’t want to deal with multiple kibbles, especially when the 14 year old will get sick if she accidentally eats it. Bleh. |
| Similar issue. Golden with stomach issues and we had found Wellness simple ingredients that was like salmon and sweet potato or something like that, which did the trick. We recently changed to another variety of Wellness that was similar but with grain and both my dogs are having major poop issues. Hesitant to make another transition, but it’s definitely not agreeing with them. |
| You can supplement with taurine, if you are inclined to participate in the latest madness. |
My dogs have been on TOTW for many years with no issues. I can’t bring myself to buy into the latest hysteria about grain-free foods. |
| Wellness Complete Health Adult -- I believe it has chicken and oatmeal |
| We just upped the portion of table scraps. |
| Now trying Blue Buffalo lamb and brown rice. |
Potatoes are cited in the FDA alert. |
