Check my PK3 List - Chillum/Lamond Riggs NE

Anonymous
Thoughts/advice on my PK3 list below for family who lives in Chillum/Lamond Riggs? Not interested in immersion but added Sela as a possible safety and proximity to home. Would be more then happy with Whittier (IB).

1. Shepherd Elementary School
2. Center City PCS - Brightwood
3. E.L. Haynes PCS - Elementary School
4. Barnard Elementary School
5. Powell Elementary School
6. Dorothy I. Height Elementary School
7. Truesdell Education Campus
8. Capital City PCS - Lower School
9. Whittier (IB)
10. Sela

You will not get into Shepherd, this is wasting space. I would put Haynes first. Not sure why you would have Height, Truesdale, and not Bridges, or Breakthrough.

It’s a good list. I’d remove Shepherd and Powell. They fill up with IB. Agree on adding Bridges and Breakthrough. I’ve heard great things about Truesdell. Good luck!

I would put Capital City much higher and Center City much lower. Why would you list Truesdell higher than Whittier? Schools are similar and there is much value in being in your IB.

If you are looking at Sela you may want to look at John Broughs and Bunker Hill. Bunker Hill Prk teachers were rated the highest in the entire district last year. Folks from ECE have been coming to watch them to see what they are doing. It is certainly worth a look for anyone in the area.

Not really in the area, though.

OP here - also not interested in Montessori so that cancelled Breakthrough and Bridges has lower Star score compared to Whittier. Would you say it’s a better school if comparing the two?

Don’t understand the logic when people say to remove schools. If there is space on OP’s list, what’s the harm of keeping schools like Shepherd and Powell?

Where can I find specific ECE school/teacher ratings?

+1, OP doesn't even have 12 spots filled.

Yes. Remember you'll only wait list on schools above where you match.

As an aside, how do you like Chillum. We are also IB for Whittier but live closer to Georgia Ave. Considering a move.

You might want to visit the two ... Bridges and Whittier have different feels and locations to consider.

Don’t mind the area but wouldn’t stay here long term. Would ultimately like to be in a neighborhood that has younger family and kids. Not the case where I am now.

If the goal is free PK3, the best chance to guarantee that is to put 12 schools that take OOB, are charter schools, or is your IB. Powell and Shepherd are not adding PK3 classes next year (as far as I know). There's just no point. But you're right, if OP doesn't have 12 other schools, sure, keep them on. From this thread, I am guessing she might have more to add.
