Stomach bug... am I in the clear?

Anonymous
I'm aware this isn't an exact science and that trying to guess my likelihood of coming out unscathed is a silly endeavor but I'm a first time mom and trying to get a sense of things.

DS started throwing up on Friday at 4pm. It lasted <12 hours and though he was cranky and sleepier than usual yesterday (Saturday), his stomach issues were over. He was negative for the flu.

DH woke up at 2am to throw up and though he hasn't again he's had several heaving episodes and some other GI symptoms.

So far I've had zero symptoms. Is there any chance that I'll come out of this unscathed? How long after DH getting sick would you think I was (likely) in the clear?

There has been so much handwashing, hand sanitizer, and lysol wipes but as evidenced by DH, that only gets you so far.

You’re probably already brewing with it. I’m sorry. It sucks.

I had it last week. 11 hours of vomiiting etc. No one else who lives with me got it. One person who was visiting with me a few hours before I started vomitting, got it almost 48 hours later.

Nope. Even after symptoms have passed, you can shed viruses.

Sorry. DD had a bug last winter, which both Dh and I caught two days later, although we were MUCH milder (no vomiting). I steamed, lysoled, bleached, peroxided, sanitized any surface I could.

ILs came to visit 5 days after DH and I felt ill... and FIL succumbed within 24 hours of being in the house. They laughed at me because I wore gloves for food prep, we used paper plates and paper towels, and they had their own bathroom.

Our household is getting over a stomach bug. DD1 got it Wed. DH got it Thurs. night. DD2 caught it Fri. morning. I came down with it yesterday morning.

So basically it can definitely brew for several days and your family is still contagious.

There is a chance you can avoid it, but you’re far from clear. If you can make it to Tues. without getting sick, you’re probably ok.

I would keep doing what you're doing but also crack open the windows as you can, especially in the sick people have been occupying. I hope you stay healthy.

My whole household got it despite tons of sanitizing, isolating the sick person, and hand washing. Each family member got it 2-3 days apart. It sucked.

Before Thanksgiving, both kids got a nasty stomach bug. Four days later, I got it that morning & my husband got it that night.

How are ya OP?

Thanks for the responses, all.

I'm still hanging on! Fingers (bathed in hand sanitizer) crossed!

You might be fine but be careful. Norovirus is shed for weeks after the vomiting stops and can live for weeks on surfaces. My son was out of school for 2 weeks with norovirus (FU to the parents who sent their kid over for a sleepover since he had stopped vomiting and having a fever 24 hours before!). DH and I, who had the most contact with barfy DS and clothes, both got cramps and diarrhea for a few days, but no vomiting. DS2, who we kept away from every "infected" bathroom, and for whom we did crazy handwashing any time we touched his food, did not get it at all.

FTR, lysol is useless in a lot of cases. You want the clorox peroxide spray and/or wipes. They are medical grade and one of the few things that kills norovirus. You can buy it on amazon.

My experience has been that when the kids are young and you have to clean up after them when they get sick, you have about a 97% chance of getting their stomach bug. When they are old enough that they make it to the bathroom when they are sick, you are much less likely to get sick. Good luck!

I have gotten 100% of the puke illnesses my kids have gotten. Ages 2 and 4, so still in the Let Me Hold This Bowl/Towel for you to Lose Your Guts In stage.

Our 20 month old puked on Saturday. DH was down and out from Tues thru Thurs, and I still don't feel 100% confident that we're in the clear. There's only so much you can do.

You steamed things? How does that work?
