Catholic Church Arlington

Anonymous
I live in Arlington and am looking for a Catholic Church with a good sense of community. I attended St. Charles several times and was put off by the new priest. It seems like the church has become more conservative and that there is more of a focus on millennials instead of families and children. Are there any other parishes I should look at? What have your experiences been with Arlington Catholic Churches?

You either go Episcopalian or go outside of Arlington. I wa astonished at how conservative the churches in Arlington were.

Have you tried Our Lady Queen of Peace? I have friends who go there who like it. In general, Catholic Churches in this area are quite conservative. We live outside the beltway now, and people looking for a more liberal church go to Nativity in Burke, but that’s probably not close enough for you.

It seems that St. Charles really took a turn after Fr. Planty came on.

Our Lady Queen of Peace is very comfy and welcoming.

I wonder why the churches are so conservative when Arlington is liberal.

St Ann is very family friendly, it has a school, and pretty middle of the road as far as churches go. It’s operated by the Missionhurst order so our priests are from the Phillipenes and Indonesia. Our former parochial vicar was from Congo.

Because they follow church doctrine and liberal tends to go against church doctrine in many areas.

We go to Holy Trinity in Georgetown because the Arlington parishes are too conservative for us. Many Arlington families there looking for a liberal parish.

Try Our Lady Queen of Peace. It's such a breath of fresh air after St. Charles, for us. Amazing.

It’s b/c we all bail for HT, St Matthews, or MD churches b/c they are so close.

We need to enforce a coup of sorts — letter campaign to Pope Francis?

Because Arlington is so close to DC people have a choice between their conservative home parish in VA or some very liberal parishes in DC. So conservative people stay in VA making those parishes even more conservative and liberal minded people head into certain DC parishes making them very liberal.

Arlingotn is literally the most conservative Diocese in America.

Look at Holy Trinity in Georgetown.

Arlington Diocese extends way south almost to Richmond and far west into I think Fauquier County. Arlington County itself has churches along a spectrum but the diocese geography does not equal the county.

Former, lifelong Arlington Diocese Catholic; is there not a strict parish boundary requirement? Don’t you typically need to live within your assigned parish boundary? I attended six AD parishes - changed each time I moved.

Parish boundaries were for convenience but I was always taught you were assigned. No church shopping.
