It's now been 10 weeks....
I gave birth at Sibley earlier this year and it took 11.5 weeks to get my DS's social security card. It takes a LONG time in DC. Hang in there! If you really need the card right away (for a passport or something) and you have the birth certificate, you can go in person to a Social Security office and get it.
We also had our daughter their in September and have not received the SS card.
Didn't give birth in September '09, but have given birth 3x at Sibley. It took a long time to get the SS cards for all three. I don't fault Sibley for this - it's a DC thing.
Yeah, I went online and looked, and it said that DC should be 8-10 weeks. It's just annoying that it's really over that now and I guess I worry that paperwork got lost in the shuffle...
Us too......it's been nearly 8 weeks. Still waiting.
I had my baby at Sibley in August and haven't received the card yet. It's been 12 weeks!
Remember, you still have to file for the card. It doesn't come automatically.
I think you're thinking of the birth certificate. The SS card comes automatically as long as you checked the box requesting it on the birth cert form. |
I was June and it took about 12-13 weeks...
gave birth in august and just got it 2 weeks ago
What's the rush?
For one thing, it's a hec of a lot easier in terms of health insurance - obviously, the newborn is insured w/o an SSN, but it sure does make the paperwork easier especially with all the wellness visits. If you plan on traveling (gasp, traveling with a baby!) you'll need it for a passport, and passports themselves take a few weeks so the sooner you have a SSN the better. |
I gave birth late dec and got the card about 3 weeks later.
I gave birth at the end of November (Sibley) and got it mid January. I also went online and requested the birth certificate and it took maybe 10 days or so.
