Is it possible that a man can go from having very good speed to having little to no viable sperm in 2 years?
We conceived our first two children really quickly. Two months of trying for baby 1 and 3 months of trying for baby 2. Our youngest is 2 and we are trying for baby 3. It’s been 7 months (with two chemical pregnancies) and I am not pregnant yet. DH had a semen analysis and it came back as 0 viable sperm. We think there was a problem with the sample (too long of time before analysis and cold temperature) but not sure if there is actually a problem or not. I posted about this already asking about semen analysis results on this forum. I am just wondering if it’s possible for dh to literally have no viable sperm when 2 years ago it was fine. He has gotten super out of shape (20 lbs over weight) and is stressed and drinks too much. He was also popping Sudafed like they were candy for over a year due to allergies (although he stopped that 6 months ago). I assume all of this would dramatically affect speed quality. Could this be reversed? I am just so frustrated and sad right now and worried about my husbands health. |
| I'm sorry you are going through this. Why don't you retest the sperm either in the doctors office or by transferring at body temperature to the office? Most places say giving the sample in at 1-2 hours from production is fine. they you know for sure whether it was a problem with the sample. |

Probably not. Are you the one whose DH brought the sample out into freezing cold temps?
You got pregnant twice, but had chemicals. That indicates that the problem is probably not with the sperm. Chemicals are common and most people don't even know they were ever pregnant. Get him another analysis and ask him to work out. |
OP here - yes that is me! DH did the sample and then had it sitting out on the counter for the better part of an hour at room temperature and then drove it into the city and had to walk a block in the freezing cold with the sample in a insulated bag. There was condensation in the plastic bag when he took it out to give for technician for the analysis. Yes we have 2 living children and I had two chemicals in the summer (July/August) but haven't had anything since then. I figured if I had chemicals that means the sperm must have more than 0% motility! But who knows. |
