Ace Ventura - what age?

What age kids do you think could watch Ace Ventura Pet Detective? Too much for 10 year olds?

Yes -
tip Common Sense Media is typically spot on when you have questions like this.

Go to the tab for what parent's and kids say and see for yourself if you are OK with it.

No way.

11/12?

That movie is hilarious. I would say 11/12 is fine.

I find their suggestions to be rather conservative overall.

It depends on the kid(s) but would say somewhere between 10 & 12 overall.

We wouldn't because we don't want to financially support Jim carry.

Why not? Not a big fan of him or his work but haven’t heard anything horrible (ala Weinstein or Spacey) about him.

Nope. Very homophobic scene where Ace realizes he’s been earlier kissed by someone who is transgendered. His response is so outrageously homophobic—the notion a man kissed him is absolutely repulsive and causes him to everything to sanitize himself from the “awful” experience. It’s queer panic at its highest.

That’s NOT a film I’d want for any 10/11 year old boy I know. This is the stuff that makes it okay to bash queer kids at school, in the locker rooms, on the bus, you name it.

This movie has not aged well. Leave it in the past.

I prob wouldn’t let my kids watch anything with Jim Carrey. His disgusting personal life has ruined all his movies for me. Sorta like Tom Cruise and Scientology. Can’t look past it and can’t condone it.

That's not homophobic, that's tranny ickyness which is still not normalized.
What would you want your son to do , love being kissed by a man who claims to be a woman?

Hilariously stupid reaction.

For myself, all that gay/tranny stuff, plus the sex scene, is exactly why I'd keep my 10/11yo from watching it.
