McLean Soccer and CCL Nextgen

McLean is no longer listed as a member club in the CCL Nextgen category. Is this a mistake or did they withdraw their younger teams?

Why is it crap? Not challenging you....just trying to understand why it’s bad.

I can't keep up with McLean, it seems like you are CCL, then not, DA, then not, ECNL....NCSL. What is the development pathway for those kids? Your in the heart of FFX with clubs all over the place and it's not like you are a destination club when you are surrounded by monsters like Bethesda, Loudoun, and Arlington so why not stay consistent.

You seem to be assuming that McLean made some kind of mistake in its assessment of the level of play. I got that the impression that McLean wasn't successful in CCL (or in DA) and had to move its teams because of that, not that they moved teams to NCSL without realizing that it was a step down.

One of those younger first teams from McLean that moved this fall didn't do so well in "sh*tty" NCSL so either a) NCSL has teams that are stronger than CCL teams (doesn't everyone already know this?) b) the McLean A team doesn't belong in either CCL Next Gen or even at the top of NCSL or c) both.

You all need to specifiy which age/sex you're referring to when making statements like "the McLean A team doesn't belong in either CCL Next Gen or even at the top of NCSL"...

The McLean team we've played isnt all that great.

McLean U11 and U12 (boys and girls) teams were kicked out of CCL. Rumor is it was because at the U13 age all of the top McLean team go to ECNL while other clubs keep their top teams in CCL. This is obviously not the case because Arlington and Loudoun both switch to either DA or ECNL too. The U11 and U12 top (green) girls teams crushed all or almost all of the NCSL teams they played this past fall. Not good for either the McLean players or for the teams the play. Bad for development to only have competitive games in tournaments. I think the U11 and U12 boys teams may have had more competitive matches in NCSL because their teams are not as strong. These teams that were once amongst the stronger ones in their age groups will enter ECNL at a huge disadvantage.

So, what has happened? Why the decline on the boys side? I think the U11 Green boys lost most of their games in NCSL (so it can't really be argued that NCSL won't prepare them for next year).

Jesus, it’s youth soccer, and pre 11v11 at that. You’re a cancer to the sport.

I think it's mostly the U11 and U12 McLean green girls teams that are going to suffer by playing NCSL. A friend has a daughter on 2008 team and said during one of the games their goalie never even touched the ball. The other team did not have a single shot on goal and McLean was playing down a player to try and even it out. They are not going to be ready for the ECNL in 2 years.

Our U11G NCSL team played McLean this past Fall. McLean was very impressive wih possession type soccer . We were no match for them at all.

While I was glad my DD played against them to learn what good soccer is like, it can’t be good for McLean players.

U11/12 had club related issues (including a shared coach who was ousted) which was more the driver of NCSL performance. This was not league related.

Mys had to pull their u-11 and 12 boys out of ccl when they chose the ECNL boys route that became avaiable last year (for U-13). If they had decided against ECNL for boys they likely would have stayed in ccl for younger groups and ccl would have allowed it as their record was fine.

OP here. Nextgen CCL refers to U9-10 only. I am referring to these two.

There was no significant difference last season in the level of competition between CCL and NCSL for McLean boys U1U11/12. Don't worry about stuff that doesn't matter.

At least NCSL is doing pro/rel now as an incentive to improve.
