Wow. As they say, haters gonna hate.

Let me take a wild guess: you're white.

Not sure what you mean by this comment. I hope that you don't mean that people of color have a monopoly on hating.

Yeah, I bought a mattress at one of those mattress stores recently. Much better than trekking to the suburbs. As long as the mattress stores stay out of my NW DC neighborhood. Tenley has always been a middle class zone of NW DC, what with Sears anchoring the hill and the radio towers.

The problem in Tenleytown isn't particularly the mattress stores or GDS, and nothing that GDS proposes to do with affect three things: First, there is Washington Psychiatric, which has become a psycho ward housing sometimes violent offenders who are sent there by the DC corrections department in lieu of being locked up in the DC jail. In recent months, two inmates escaped into the surrounding residential area. (Both were captured later.) The second is the grimey string of convenience stores and fast food joints south of Tenley Circle. Both attract rats and the convenience stores in particular create a problem of litter that blows around for blocks. The third is the group of aggressive panhandlers who congregate in the narrow space at the top of the escalator by Best Buy, without any apparent interference by the police.

It's just a bunch of rich families spending money on their kids instead of donating it to a cause. 35k per year. Can you imagine what all that money would do for Food and Friends? For the displaced in Nepal? For the kids orphaned by Ebola? But keep on patting yourselves on the back for being "progressive" gds parents!

Wow. As they say, haters gonna hate.

Yes, "social justice blah blah blah." You are one angry muffin.

No, the problem in Tenleytown is that the market for better retail and more housing has been continuously opposed by a small group of people who for years have stifled most major improvements in the area. It is only recently that the AU Law School and Babes have moved forward. These will help anchor a better Wisconsin Avenue. GDS's proposal will help too, by way of the additional residents and retail opportunities in the area.

Congratulations! Maybe Tenleytown soon will get it's own replica of Cathedral Commons (but with more fast food of course).

Will GDS have a cafetaria?

Because Popeye's, McDonalds, Chipoltle and Panera aren't enough? Maybe with a Cathedral Common's, there would be something like Barcelona and Raku, the way Cathedral Commons is getting? That would be an upgrade.

Yes, and don't forget three banks (!) and yet another CVS. Cathedral Commons may offer some more retail, but it's ugly and appears cheaply constructed. And hardly anyone shops at the new Giant, which is too large and inconvenient for quick purchases. Does Tenleytown really want similar "generica", as the "gateway" to a crammed-to-the-gills GDS?

I believe the plans currently include adding a cafeteria, though of course that could change.

With the scope of the project planned, it would almost be school malpractice not to include a cafeteria.

People should attend the ANC meeting to find out more and let their elected representatives get a sense of how their constituents feel.

If GDS adds a cafetaria, won't it increase tuition? I thought the goal was to keep fees lower. GDS already costs the same as other schools without providing lunch.
