It was New Year's Eve and the Prussians were all getting drunk on Wisconsin Ave It wasn't much of a battle because the Prussians were too drunk to fight and tired from playing soccer. That's when they renamed that neighborhood Georgetown after George Washington then later in the week they named the entire city Washington D.C.! Making it the capital because Washington crossed the Potomac and liberated it from the drunk Prussians |

Captain 20 landing in a helicopter in the field behind Whittier Woods Elementary.
Closing of Whittier Woods Elementary (l lived across the street). Whitman students all standing in the front parking lot in 1976 waiting for the streakers to show. They did not disappoint. Continuous presence of burn-outs spending hours on the "hill." Not opposed to smoking, just the drastic impact I observed to the kids who let it become a habit. Shame. |

Reading trough this thread brought back memories, some good, some not good...I lived in Kensington from '65 to '73, and Vienna from 79-82.
I distinctly remember playing with Katie Lyons when I was little (I am male) . It may have been at school or elsewhere (I am not sure if she went to the same school, but we were the same age; I went to Rock Creek Palisades ES). We moved away before they were kidnapped, and I remember, at 8, being able to go anywhere on my Bike. I remember when we heard about the kidnapping, we were living in a NYC suburb, and I could not believe it...I was in the fifth grade, and that day was suspended for fighting. I told someone about it, and made fun of me for having a "girl friend", so I beat him up. Sorry for derailing the thread. |
