You aren’t supposed to find them attractive, sicko.

DP.
PP didn't say anything about finding kids attractive. PP referenced kids being out of shape.
And, she/he is correct. We have an epidemic of obesity that nobody wants to talk about. We have reached a point where obesity has become accepted and even glorified.
That is just not healthy.

You seriously think it's not talked about?

Not really. Companies just started realizing there was profit in making bigger sizes and showing bigger people. It's a marketing decision. But fat/obese is still overwhelmingly seen as negative.

Yeah, there’s an epidemic, but it’s because we add fking corn syrup to everything. Everyone talks about that. Everyone talks about obesity. We have some good solutions of late including things like weGovy

RFK is notorious for his dislike of GLP-1 inhibitors, which beyond some side effects, are showing incredible promise in treating obesity, diabetes and even alcoholism.

This is so basic. 40 years ago kids who today would be called “neurodivergent” were just left undiagnosed, unsupported, and untreated.

It was a sink or swim world and they either sucked it up and killed themselves working ten times harder for a fraction of the result, or they drowned.

These days everyone gets an IEP, medication, therapy, and a there’s a whole industry around diagnosing everyone’s different learning styles and selling them often bogus “therapies” that 40 years ago were treated with bullying, character assassination, and corporal punishment.

I half agree with you. Clearly, there is an industry in selling bogus therapies.

But I disagree with you that it's just a change in diagnosis. I can see why you assume that, and it feels like it might be true. But, at least in the case of autism, the numbers are just surging.

If I didn't have the experience of being an autism parent, I would assume that it's just really easy to get an autism diagnosis these days. Actually, the opposite seems to be true. Talk to any autism parents and they'll tell you about how hard it can be to get the requisite appointments needed to get a diagnosis. Or compare the DSM-IV and DSM-V to see how the diagnostic criteria have gotten more demanding. Despite these factors, the rates surge.

Whatever your views on Kennedy, society owes it to our children to figure out what it is and how to treat it.

How many teens and young adults will unalive themselves because they're denied SSRIs or forced to stop taking them? I was severely depressed in high school and college and I only made it because I was on the max dose of Zoloft.

My husband has been struggling with weight gain and insulin resistance despite his best efforts since he left the military a decade ago. He started weight loss medication recently and it's already making a huge difference. If RFK cares about obesity, how about making it so we don't have to pay $300 a month to keep my husband from becoming diabetic like the rest of his family?

Which drugs is he using?

I couldn't find a measles-specific thread in this forum.

Very sad breaking news:

Unvaccinated Child Dies of Measles in Texas

At least 124 cases of measles have been identified in Texas since late January, mostly among children and teenagers who are either unvaccinated or whose vaccination status is unknown, officials say.

Are we officially a shithole country yet? This is unacceptable in the 21st century.

Unfortunately I believe this is only the beginning. Measles is incredibly contagious. If maga couldn’t manage to cooperate in controlling covid, and now Trump has dismantled the health agencies altogether, measles is going to rip through the country. Remember exponential growth?
