Why is Northeastern (NEU) so popular with both parents and students these days?

52 pages back and forth with how much they've improved v they've gamed the rankings. Can't we be done and lock this thread? Or are the two of you having fun with this nonsense?

Nope, it's the opposite in this case. Customers come finding the quality and value.

Here are some of the major metrics.

- Retention rate: #3 together with Columbia, Dartmouth, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Rice
https://www.usnews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/freshmen-least-most-likely-return

- Graduation rate: #29 among national universities
https://www.collegeraptor.com/college-rankings/details/GraduationRate6Year/

- Quality of peers (based on SAT when scores were mandatory, 2018): #25 including LACs
https://www.businessinsider.com/the-50-smartest-colleges-in-america-2016-10

- OUtcome: better than T25ish schools such as Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Brown, UChicago, Rice, WashU, Emory, etc.

Combine this with good location and such.
Seriously, is there any surprise why it's popular??
This is 21st century. We have abundance of data and information.
It's performance driven.
Students choosing Northeastern are actually very savvy customers who are not influenced by marketing and sales.

Good luck on your college searches.

Well, there might be more than two. booster bot is adaptable and is able to incorporate bad ideas from other commentators and repeat them in a slightly different context. Might be evidence of a flexible machine-learning algorithm. But not an intelligent one. Either that or a completely clueless human who says “You’re a %£€¥ too!

For example:
“Northeastern’s CivicConnect Team Builds Congressional Office Chatbot Prototype”
Jan 8
POPVOX Foundation commends the “CivicConnect” student team from Northeastern University's Burnes Center for Social Change on the creation of what we believe to be the first Congressional office chatbot prototype, leveraging OpenAI’s GPT-4 model. We were honored to advise the team and are excited to learn from and build on their work.

The students (Ala’a Tamam, Arjun Bhat, Isha Chadalavada, Parth Kabra, and Rohit Kaushik) — under the direction of Dan Jackson, Director of NU Law Lab, and Professor Beth Noveck, with mentoring from the POPVOX Foundation team — studied the current state of constituent correspondence in Congressional offices. Through their interviews with staff, constituent management system providers, and Ala’a’s experience working as an intern in a district office, the students identified problems with constituent correspondence processes that will be exacerbated by an increase in AI-generated messages. They then brainstormed potential solutions and decided that a chatbot would allow for a more interactive experience for constituents and helpful analytics for Congressional offices.

The team developed CivicConnect, an AI-powered chatbot using OpenAI’s technology, aimed at improving constituent-representative engagement. This chatbot is designed to handle basic inquiries and summarize conversations for staffers. Key features include:

Learning Capability: It can load and learn from office-specific documents, such as talking points and voting records, to provide responses aligned with the representative's policies.

Customization: The chatbot is fully customizable to suit the specific needs of different congressional offices.

Efficiency and Responsiveness: It aims to streamline communication, reduce response times, and handle large volumes of correspondence more efficiently.

Open Source Code: The students made their code available on GitHub, allowing for future enhancements and adoption by other projects.

This. You’re arguing with stupid. Go look at their online parent facebook groups:

- they spend less per student than the Boston public school system does
- they messed up grad events so seniors had to pay a required fee and couldn’t attend a single grad event (many wrote to the head of the school saying all slots were filled even before the signup began)
- tons of parents complain that their kids can’t find co-ops…despite trying and trying.

These are real experiences of many families.

So you can go with entirety of the data or go with some random complaints. Your choice.

Please move on. This is exhausting.

I don’t blame NEU for the quality of the comments here.

Are you a parent?

Which school doesn't have any complaints from parents?

NEU satisfaction level is top notch evidenced by the retention rate.

2 out of 100 don't return after one year for NEU.
1 out of 10 don't' return for Yale.

You can see the remarkable overall satisfaction rate.

Do Northeastern a favor and stop trying to support them!
