Anyone have any experience with Maurice Butler? He's a fertility doctor at Columbia Fertility Associates. He may be the surgeon who removes a fibroid for me and I'm trying to do some research before undergoing this major surgery. (And if you have any recommendations for doctors who are pros at this surgery, please let me know.)

| I had a terrible experience with Dr. Butler. I called him twice in one evening, suspecting a ruptured tubal pregnancy. He blew me off telling me, "Well, I don't know anything about your case, I guess you should go to the hospital". I was a patient of CFA and he could have done more. I ended up losing my tube and have not been successful getting pregnant. I wouldn't trust him. |
| My sister went to Dr. Butler and absolutely ADORED him. I have never met him so I can't give an opinion on that. I have had fibroid surgery though, and I can highly recommend my surgeon,Dr. Nancy Durso. I don't have her contact info handy, but she's located in Alexandria and she has a website, so you could just google her name. |
| Dr. Butler is an excellent doctor and he will do an excellent job removing your fibroid as he did with mine. He is simply adorable and has a solid track record in his field. |
| I have not seen Dr. Butler, but can tell you that I had a really negative experience w/Dr. Durso & would never recommend her. |
| Butler is good medically and surgically, but bed side manner needs a little work. |

He is a throughout and skilled physician. I am sorry about your pregnancy but believe it or not, he actually gave you the best advice. For a rupture tubal pregnancy, the best thing to do was to head to the hospital. He couldn't have done more even if you were his patient. Sorry again about your lost and I wish you all the best.
Dr. Butler is really one of the best ( and he won best doctor several times) in his field. |

I've found the article below on top fertility doctors and Dr. Bulter as well as Dr. Durso are listed as top infertility specialists. I guess we all have different needs and expectations when it comes to having a relationship with doctors. No doctor is perfect (I mean nobody is perfect).
I have seen Dr. Butler numerous times and he truly knows what he is doing. You must however decide to have him as a doctor based on your expectations and gut feeling...but I will trul recommend him. He is simply good and have over 30 years of experience in that field! ................................................................................................................................................................................ | Go for it. He is an excellent doctor. |
| Dr. Simon is on that list and he is excellent. He also has a great bedside manner, is a nice man and has a very efficient office staff. |
| I'm a former patient of Dr. Butler, I think he's an excellent Dr., he also performed surgery on me and I would use and do highly recommend him to all. |
| I absolutely adore Dr. Nancy Durso. Her practice is called Metro Fertility Care and their phone number is 703.313.6997. I have PCOS and Dr. Durso understands this condition better than any doctor I have ever seen. She has a wonderful bedside manner, and a terrific staff. I highly recommend her. |

I used Columbia Fertility but saw Dr. Sacks. I had to have fibroid surgery and Dr. Sacks recommended Dr. Paul Mackoul at the Women's Surgery Center in Bethesda. Dr. Mackoul is a specialist in fibroids and he was great. Had many very large fibroids removed and got pregnant on my own 3 months later (after a year of fertility treatments). I would recommend going to see Dr. Mackoul for at least a second opinion. Can't hurt.
And I did see Dr. Butler a few times and found he was perfectly fine. |
| Dr Butler may be good for surgery but I would not use him for fertility treatments. I did not feel as if he was attentive to all of the options in my case that were available and I felt rushed when dealing with him and his staff. I went to GWU Fertility the next time where I did get pregnant. I agree his bedside manner is something to be desired. Good Luck! |

I have shopped around town looking for a surgeon to remove my fibroids. I have never been pregnant and want to preserve my fertility. I met with Dr. Steven Horwitz, Dr. McKoul and then Dr. Butler. I was most impressed by Dr. Butler and felt most at ease with him. The others wanted to go straight to the Operating Room and do extensive surgeries on my uterus that would automatically commit me to a C-Section in the future. Dr. Butler spent over an hour explaining the options and next steps. I haven't gotten surgery yet but my initial impression when compared to the others was favorable.
Fibroid surgery is not a "major" surgery in terms of life threatening. However, if you want to have a baby in the future then it is important to choose a fertility doc to do the surgery since this is their priority at all times. Go with who you think has the best connection with you. They are all board certified and on the list of complicated surgeries for a GYN...this is relatively straightforward. Put it this way...I was a OB/GYN resident a few years ago and this was a second year resident level surgery. Good luck with everything. |
