Dr. Butler is a good choice, in my opinion. I have been seeing him for almost two years and I've had nothing but good experiences. He performed a multiple myomectomy on me in January 2008. I healed very quickly and nicely following the procedure. During the procedure he discovered that I endometriosis, so we are now dealing with that preventing fertility. He has been most attentive and whenever I call his office I receive a return call that same day, even if it's after 6 pm. He has taken time away on the weekends to see and I am most gracious for this.

The thing is, we sometimes expect too much too quickly. With any doctor we have to remember that they are human and no one person knows everything, if that were the case we'd all be 100% healthy. Also, some people prefer a doctor that will talk to them during a procedure or one who can have personal convos and some people don't. Follow your instincts, let that be your guide. I have and will continue to recommend Dr. Butler. He's straight to the point and very knowledgeable. Good luck to you all!

Dr. Butler performed a myomectomy on me in 2000, and I got pregnant with twins via ADI four calendar months later (3 treatment cycles). Prior to seeing Dr. Butler, I saw two surgeons at GIVF in Fairfax. I found Dr. Butler to be much more attentive and patient at explaining the procedure. The GIVF surgeons only had one time slot available, 3pm on a given day 6 weeks away. Dr. Butler, who was then performing surgery at the now closed Columbia Hospital for Women, scheduled the surgery for the first thing in the morning (easiest after fasting) and gave me birth control pills to be sure my cycle was in the right place (easiest to do the surgery just after your period when lining is thinnest). I don't know where he operates now that Columbia is closed, but in picking a surgeon, the hospital he/she uses also matters, as that affects surgerical scheduling, anesthiologist (never could spell that word), nursing staff during recovery etc. Also, Dr. Butler performed the surgery using just an epideral, not a general. Finally, he removed the fibroids carefully enough that I was able to have a vaginal birth afterward, and did not require a C-section.

My twins were born vaginally at 39 weeks, an easy pregnancy.

A year later, when trying to have a 3rd child, I had more difficulty getting pregnant. I found him to be less attentive to the treatment specifics than I would have liked. I did conceive after 7 cycles.

Good luck, trust your gut, the right doctor for you is out there, if you're comfortable with Dr. Butler, great, if not, keep trying. I have recommended Dr. Butler to several friends, and they have had mixed reviews.

DR. Butler has been my doc since I was the age of 19 yrs old I am now 37 without child. An can't imagine anyone els being my Doctor. .For years I wonder why I did not get pregnant with my partner and why my peroids were not noraml. He was the first to give a trans vag ulta sound right there diag. my on going issue since my teen years. I clearly had POS where as every other reptupal Gyn miss diagnosed me. I trust him beyond meassusre he's just real and straight to the point yes infertiliy is an emotional state of mind. However you wants facts and not wishes. So a to me quality vs manners rules for me any day. I am sadden that when I do become pregnant he no longer delivers I will miss his smart dry witty humor. I have followed him since his days at Columbia Hospital for women and his follow staff of Dr.s and if they can't fix your issue trust me it can't be fixed.

Do not recommend the office at all. Went twice, each time left with a very negative experience.

Dr. Butler is all-around excellent. He is very thorough and non-rushed when explaining things and answering questions. I've been a patient for several years now and have had two surgeries to remove polyps done by Dr. Butler. Both times it went very smoothly. I refered 4 of my friends to him and everyone is happy.

I have been to dr butler for routine gynecological care. I find that he is pretentious and aloof but, most importantly, not a good listener and dismissive. I visited him twice after my first routine exam bc I suspected I was pregnant. The pregnancy tEsts were not picking up the pregnancy. He ignored my symptoms and made me feel liKe I was imagining things. It turned out i was 18 weeks pregnant with my happy and healthy daughter. There are so many doctors out there - you can go with a better choice.

I found Dr. Butler fabulous. He is thorough, methodical and explains in as much detail as you want. He worked with us very closely and after addressing a few issues -- one of which required minor surgery, we had 2 children through IVF. It workd 2 out of 3 times!

I would think it would be an advantage to work with a fertility doc if you are trying to get pregnant, just for the consistency. Before IVF, I had an ectopic pregnancy for which my OBG practice sent me to Sibley for emergency surgery. My tube was not ruptured but I lost it anyway. I can't help thinking that maybe a fertility doc might have been more sensitive to my desire to conceive and might have found a way to save the tube.

I also went to Dr. Butler for routine gynecological care and to keep tabs on a hormonal condition from 2008 to last month. He was arrogant, a poor listener, and I constantly felt judged when discussing my sexual health with him. He would prescribe medications that I told him up front I had already tried, didn't like or wouldn't take. He refused to explain his diagnostics in full without prodding, and when pressed would become testy and unpleasant.

I left the practice after I discovered that sex was becoming quite painful due to tearing. Dr. Butler made a quick diagnosis and wrote me a prescription before test results came back (is that common?). I refused to take the medication until we could verify his diagnosis, which he seemed to interpret as hostility on my part. After multiple tests from multiple visits came back negative, I attempted to re-explain my symptoms in a follow-up appointment. He told me that some of the symptoms I was describing were ‘just a coincidence’ and stuck by his diagnosis. I decided that any doctor who could not trust me to accurately describe symptoms and incorporate them into a comprehensive diagnosis was at least a quack and at worst disrespecting my intelligence. I went to a new gynecologist, who gave me a diagnosis accounting for all my symptoms.

I’m very upset that I paid over $200 for unnecessary tests and went through months of emotional stress and relationship drama because Dr. Butler is, to be frank, an idiot. Perhaps he’s good at fertility issues and surgery; I can’t speak to that. But I can verify that he is not good at general gynecology and has an atrocious bedside manner.

And the parting kiss? Butler’s office charged me $30 to transfer my files. When I went to my appointment with my new gynecologist, they had only received a few pages. If I pay you $30 to fax a dozen pages to an office, the least you can do is do it right.

Avoid this office, and Butler in particular.

I am a physician and a former patient of Dr. Butler. He has all my respect, admiration and gratitude for his excellent work. I would highly recommend him and would trust him more than any other fertility physician in Washington DC. I think, he really deserves all the praises he has received throughout his career.

I used Dr. Butler and I adored him. He's actually funny. This was over 14 years ago.

8:55 again. PP can you schedule a visit for a sniff test? Some of these stories do not resemble the doctor I saw. I'm not doubting anyone, they are just so different from mine. When we thought I couldn't get pregnant, he was really sympathetic and gentle.

Excellent Doctor...went to several doctors prior to him. Been a patient of his for over 13 years. He helped me conceive my son. And when I decide to have another child I will return to him for IVF treatement.
