Hormone levels - what do these mean?

Anonymous
I got my blood tested on Day 5 (CD5) and this is what came back:

FSH - 6.1
LH - 3.1
Prolactin - 4.9
TSH - 1.98
AMH - 3.81

Is this good or bad? I have no idea. I am 35 and have had two chemical pregnancies in the past 6 months so went to the doctors to get everything checked out.

They're very good in terms of egg reserves. Most RE's want an FSH under 10 and an AMH over 2-3 is great. You should get a good number of eggs via IVF.

Keep an eye on your TSH/thyroid.

Did they test E2/Estrogen?

OP here - is my TSH high? I am normal weight (140lbs/5'7"). I did the test in the morning after having a cup of coffee and a piece of toast. I read somewhere that your TSH changes throughout the day.

They did Estrodriol and it was 61. Not sure what that means either.

TSH under 2.0 is good. If you do IVF, you can ask them to include it in your testing and keep any eye on the number yourself. If it goes over 2.0 while you're cycling, I'd consider asking for thyroid hormone supplementation.

Was your vitamin D level tested? That can impact ovarian function. You want that to be in the higher end of the normal range.

OP here - no they didn't test my Vitamin D level. This was all done at my OB and they did a very standard test. My DH is getting semen analysis done as well. After that we will look into possibly doing more invasive things like HSG and IUI. Not sure where to go from here. We are both 35.

You could meet with an RE for a consult to discuss options. They'll be better at analyzing the numbers and the repeat chemical pregnancies, than an OB. People think RE = IVF, but that's not true. One friend merely needed her progesterone level tweaked.

Go see an RE, they'll give you the full run down. And the HSG and IUI are a piece of cake, it's the anticipation that's difficult.

REs usually use CD 2-3 blood tests for analysis, but the #s you posted generally look good. A lot of people don't notice chemical pregnancies since they happen often before you'd miss your period or you end up only a little late. I know it's not that helpful, but even for women in their 20s, about 1/2 the eggs are abnormal, so you could really be perfectly fine and just have noticed 2 chemicals due to normally occurring chromosomal abnormalities. I'm not saying don't go to an RE (I do think that's better than your OB if you want the best info - and be prepared that they may not have clear answers). But, do whatever you can not to get overly stressed - easier said than done, I know. Good luck!
