Accepted to Magnet and Coming From W-Feeder

Anonymous
If your child comes from a W-Feeder ES, I am curious what kind of stats it takes to get acceptance/waitlisted to a MS Magnet.

(There is another thread, but it has other types of information including acceptances in general, and I think information will get lost when it goes to 10+ pages.)

My kid got in, but we cared enough about our child's education to move to a feeder where there wasn't a large cohort of high-performers.

??

Not the OP, but which W-feeder has a low cohort of high-performers?? The W-feeder schools are strong.

Unless you moved to a non-W feeder, in which case, you're not in any way relevant to OP's question.

We are in a non-W feeder, but kid attends a CES. I am interested in seeing which kids from the CES did actually get into the Magnet.

Are they applying the cohort criteria to high school magnets now too? If they are then that sucks,

We moved out of the area and one of our regrets was that DD wont be able to do the Global Ecology program at Poolesville. She is incredibly passionate about ecology and environmental science. If we moved back, I'd hate to think we would need to game where we would live so she can have a chance to participate in something that is supposed to cover a large section of schools but in reality doesn't.

No acceptance from a W-feeder school yet?

Be aware that there are no longer a selection of “held” seats from Poole Middle School to PHS magnet programs.

There have only been 3 or 4 acceptances listed on the other thread so,far. I imagine there will be more tomorrow as the mail is delivered.

I have not seen any W-feeder acceptances on the other thread.

There are some there now...

If W feeders have such a strong cohort, there's no need for kids in those school's to attend a magnet.

They have enough candidates to form a magnet program. But MCPS doesn’t give them an opportunity to have the magnet curriculum.

OP here. So far, the only acceptance I see from W-feeder schools are:

I am very confused after reading all these messages. My son was recommended for Takoma Park and while he always scores 99% in MAP and gets straight A's, his cogat MCPS percentiles weren't as impressive (70's and 80's). We are Causasian in a W-feeder. Not sure why he was selected, to be honest, after seeing the scores for the kids who were not recommended.

Maybe we will hear more later today. Just curious what it takes to be an outlier to get into a MS magnet from a W-feeder school.

Maybe the 70% was an outlier in a sea of 99 percenters.

I think that is the point of the thread. OPis asking how high it takes to be considered an outlier.
