| We are at a W-feeder school. My kids stats look fantastic but he is rejected to both. Does that mean he is not automatically enrolled in the two enriched classes that are offered at our local MS? Are we at the mercy of the MS principal to make such decisions? If so, when will we know the results? |
| The letter says we will hear end of January from the home middle school. Are you planning to appeal? |
No |
Which letter. The letter you received in the mail? The perforated letter we received today indicated nothing. |
| I didn't get a perforated letter; I received a regular envelope. But my kid is on the Eastern waitpool, so there was a bit about being automatically entered into the Historical Inquiry into Global Humanities class. We have to wait and hear from the home middle school about the accelerated math class, but I'm guessing that will be fine (given test scores). |
|
I’m also wondering the same.
Have a kid with strong stats but was rejected outright. No Wait List. Nothing about the enriched program admission for home MS. It’s somewhat unclear how this will work. |
| Similar question here: from the letter it appears that the scores are sent to the MS. But not clear if those scores are dispositive or if they rely on grades, testing, etc. |
| What do you mean strong stats? Low 90s for Cogat? Mid 90s? High 90s? |
|
It means the data was sent to Middle Schools and they will contact you by the end of the month.
Students with scores over 90th percentile "rejected" due to cohort should be invited to one or both of the courses. The letter says to "explore your options at your local middle school" so maybe call them?? |

Last year my child was selected from Central Office and later contacted by MS after being rejected. The rejection letter was similar to this year's letter. I think the local school will still receive recommendations from Central and then decide if they will add additional kids. My neighbor moved here last summer and I suggested she contact the MS about placing her child. Her high performing child was offered a spot in the new enriched classes based on past performance.
I also noted from the updated FAQ that middle schools will also continue to offer enriched classes to the current cohort next year in 7th grade. Curious which humanities and algebra class MCPS will offer. |
Last year I was told by AEI (I think that is the office name) that grades, Cogat, MAP, etc were considered for enriched classes. |
MAP/Grades from first quarter or also from the winter? |
I was told last quarter of 4th (including PARCC) and 1st quarter of 5th |
How do you know if your child was rejected due to cohort? Are they assuming any child who had scores in the 90th percentile and above was rejected due to cohort/ |
