Rant: Bad drivers, huge SUVs, and parking

Anonymous
Dear people of the DMV:

If it takes you more than a three point turn to park your ridiculously huge SUV:

a) Get a smaller car,
b) improve your driving skills,
and c) for the love of god stop with the stupid back-in parking already.

Thank you. That is all.

Or at least don't drive in the city. So annoying.

Back in parking is far safer than forward in parking.

Regarding SUVs, it is much easier to back into a space than to drive in forward.

Then why does it regularly take people five minutes to do?

It's the women drivers in the huge SUVs who can't park. Us men have no problem.

It really depends on the lot. In our local Target lots, you are spot on, Wide spaces and wide lanes. Plenty of turning room. But many parking lots are making the spaces narrower and the lane width shorter. If you don’t line up your car just so, you will either scrape one or the cars or give yourself one inch to open the door. Lots of indoor lots have weird concrete posts that don’t allow you to adjust.

So lighten up,buttercup and stop being the jerk who didn’t bother to straighten out and parked on the line so that everyone else has to figure out how to get into the space next to you.

5 minutes? That's super fast for the majority of SUV drivers.

There is no need to back into suburban parking lots and parking garages; there are even signs in some of the garages warning drivers to not back in, I've seen drivers back-in right in front of these signs.

Not sure why backing in is a "thing" here, I've lived around large SUVs and pickup trucks my whole life before moving here, and most people did not back in and did not kill anyone while pulling out.

Spoken like a guy with a small weenie.

I'm a woman (who drives normal-sized cars) and I agree - it does seem to mainly be women who pull this crap.

The back in parking thing is super annoying , especially when there is a line of cars in the parking lot waiting for you to back your car in. It's so freaking rude.

Some f@cker hit and ran my new car. Scraped all the paint off the front passenger side in a parking lot. No note.

Thank you!

As someone who works in a place with a huge parking lot with small spaces: please either drive a smaller car to work if you can, or figure out how to center your massive car in the spot!! Otherwise, the rest of us literally can't fit our normal-sized cars into the spot.

Painful to watch two SUVs trying to pass one another on DC streets. One has to stop or pull to the side.
We have a few coming to our neighborhood school, but they have a new trick: they come early and park when there are several spaces available or they come late when there are spaces available again. Have not seen them attempt parallel parking, turning around or backing into a spot at school.
Glad they don't. Kids cross everywhere and it's hard to see them in a small car.
The black SUVs stand out. There are 2 of them in tandem usually.

There’s a bunch of ex-military and NatSec dorks in our region. Police and military are taught to park in backwards so a fleet of vehicles can deploy quickly in an emergency.

It’s completely unnecessary for any civilians (or off-duty security/IC) to do this in a CostCo on a Saturday afternoon.

My favorites are the people who park more than a foot away from the curb. 6" should be the max, but 1-2 feet (OR MORE, or diagonal!) should cause your license to be revoked.
