Facebook Post with Photo of Acceptance Letter

Anonymous
Just a vent. I have a FB friend who has started getting acceptances to Catholic High Schools (not around here) and she is posting photos of her kid's acceptances letters and bragging about the merit money they received. And she is posting all the acceptances...not just the school they decide on. Ugh..so tacky. My kid just got into his first choice college, and while we did post on Facebook (he wanted us to), we didn't share all the other acceptances he received.

Wow. Extremely tacky.

Some ppl would think your post about your son’s college acceptance was over the top bragging as well. Moral of the story: someone out there will always think you’re a tacky facebragger, so you do you.

LOL

You did a college acceptance FB post. You’re just as arrogant and tacky.

OP here. DS wanted us to do it. He is very proud of the accomplishment. Many many people post the college your kid decides to attend. Also, I have no problem with people posting about HS they intend to attend, but to post about merit money and every other school's acceptance is over the top.

You aren't mature enough for social media.

Nope, sorry.

Just because he wanted you to do it doesn’t mean you do it. He can be proud of it without you splashing it all over FB. Just because lots of people do it doesn’t mean you do it.

I had a friend post her son’s end of semester GPA.

What is the big deal about posting about the college your kid decides to attend? It is a major milestone. We did this as well and our DD also posted on Instagram. Got 200+ comments. People are genuinely happy for your kid for the most part.

I’m only FB friends with people that I’m actually friends with. I don’t see what the big deal is in posting acceptances to HS or colleges. It saves me from having to tell the same story over and over to 10 different people. It also saves people from feeling that they didn’t find out as soon as another friend did.

A FB friend posted a pic of her daughters acceptance letter off the waitlist to the MCPS 4th and 5th grade GT magnet. She didn’t say it was off the waitlist though.

LOL- some people are desperate to brag publicly.

“Saves people from finding out ...” as if most of one’s friends care what schools larla got accepted at. They may care what school she is going to, but if they really want to get the lowdown on what schools she was or wasn’t accepted at, they will ask!

+1. People post about birthdays, vacations, hell what they had for dinner. Why would sharing a major milestone, at least in terms of college chosen, be out of line?

I could see how a post might go over the top, and we don't need daily post about the new school, but a simple announcement seems fine to me.
