If you had a very quick labor - what did you do for subsequent pregnancies?

Just out of curiousity - did you Dr schedule you to be induced? If yes, how far before your due date? Did you camp out at the hospital?

Just let nature take its course?

Why would you be induced for having a quick labor? Was it so quick you might not be able to get to the hospital? Not trying to be snarky, just never heard of that. I know a whole lot of people that were induced who ended up with C-sections though. Do you live really far from a hospital?

yes - my labor was so quick that I might not get to the hospital (woke up at 3:30 AM, realized water broke, baby delivered at 4:20 AM)

My first labor was 12 hours long. I had a very quick labor with my second child (3 hours start to finish). For the third, we did not induce, let nature take its course. #3's labor was about 5 hours long.

A friend had a quick labor (only a few hours), so she decided to induce for #2 and #3, because she was worried she wouldn't make it to hospital on time. Maybe someone else can comment on this, but I thought the whole "induction will lead to c/s" is more relevant for FTMs. I would think that once your body has had a VB, and induction is more likely to work.

Give birth in the car on the way to the car!!

obviously meant to say on the way to the hospital

I was induced for my first pregnancy as the women in my family tend to have very fast labors. I had my water broken around 1 p.m - Pitocin administered about 3 - baby arrived a little after 4. But I was 39.5 weeks along, and also already 4 cm. dilated when I got to my doctor's office.

I will probably be induced for this one too since it may go a lot faster - I don't want to have it while stuck on the Beltway!

My OB told me that the second labor/delivery is typically about 1/2 the length of the first. So if you had a 2 or 3 hour labor/delivery the first time around, then I can see a concern for wanting to be induced, especially if you could get stuck in rush hour traffic getting to the hospital.

My first one was a little less than 4 hours from start to finish - labor pains starting at the stroke of midnight, could barely get to the hospital because the pain increased so drastically and quickly, finally got to hospital by 2:00am, DS born at 3:47am. They gave me Epidural but I don't think it even took effect since they had taken so long to administer it.

This time, my OB is probably going to induce me a day or two before the due date so that I can be more prepared and not be in so much pain without the Epidural.

4 hours for the first one after 3-4 cm dilated for a month. #2 0 dialted that am and barely made it to the hospital for delivery from 1st contraction to delivery 1.5 hrs at 9pm. Needless to say no epidural. For #3 they told me I would have modified instructions coming to the hospital and the first sign of possible contraction not waiting for them to be regular or strong.

First pregnancy: admitted to the hospital at 715am, baby arrived at 1230pm

Second pregnancy: like the PP - I also almost gave birth in the car...more specifically on the Fairfax County Parkway (on the way to Inova Fair Oaks). Fortunately, I was able to hold off until we made it to the hospital...it was a close one though!

OP you might have a world record if you had a baby in less than an hour from start to finish. I'm not buying that.

If true, I would probably just have a home birth in that case. For your second birth, I doubt you'll even have time to get to the car.

My mom had my sister only 15 minutes after arriving at the hospital - some labors are really that fast!

I had a 3-hour labor for my first baby - start to finish - so I'm getting induced the second time to make sure my husband will have time to get there from work and that there will be someone to take care of my daughter (no one under 18 allowed in the ward, due to swine flu restrictions).

Not the original poster but I had a similar (< 2 hour) first labor. I was induced with (term) twins and delivered 90 minutes after the pitocin was started. During that time I thought I would die---the contractions were so strong I felt like I was being torn apart and there was no gradual lead-up to the stronger contractions. It was 0----->60 in 10 seconds.
I'm now pregnant with #3 and uncertain what we're going to do. Hoping for another super quick labor but afraid of delivering on route. But I also REALLY don't want pitocin again.
