| I'm having a really hard time deciding on my next car. My last car was a Toyota Yaris, but my husband got in an accident driving it and it was totaled. My husband, and the idiot who wasn't paying attention and hit him, are both fine. I actually REALLY loved my Yaris, but I'm thinking I want to get a hybrid this time around. We have it narrowed down to the Toyota Prius, Hyundai Ionic, or the Honda Insight. I also really like the new Corolla or Civic hatchback if we decide not to go the hybrid route. Does anyone have experience with these cars? Will I regret getting or not getting a hybrid? We keep going back and forth on it. My commute is mainly city driving. Any thoughts, concerns, and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you! |
| City driving - yes to hybrid. I'm looking at a rav4 hybrid. Has good horsepower. I have kids and make a costco runs, so I need some trunk space. |
| Wow, you really like ugly cars, don’t you. For a hybrid, go with the Tesla model 3. |
| I have owned 2 Priuses, the first was a 2009 that was great, finally got rid of it at 250,000 miles. We now have a 2016 that is almost at 100,000 and have only had to do brakes and oil changes on it. My 6'3" son can sit comfortably in the back. With the back seats down, you can also fit a lot of stuff. I have a 45 mile commute, that is why the mileage is so high. |
| Op here and reliability is important to us. We had our Yaris for 9 years and never had to do anything besides regular maintenance. I'm leaning towards getting another Toyota for that reason, but I just wish they offered Android Auto. |
Teslas arent hybrids. They are fully electric. |
| Teslas also seem to be out of OP's price range, so ignorant. |

The Prius drives like a wet rag. Such a bummer. But there's no doubt it's a massively popular hybrid car, and Toyotas are reliable.
I haven't driven one, but if I were OP I would at least test drive the Hyundai Ioniq. There are hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. The car certainly LOOKS better than a Prius (though that's a pretty low bar). Also gets better MPG than the Prius. Honda also has the Insight. From personal experience I can state that Hondas are amazingly reliable. |
"You're $20k cars seem gross. Why not buy one that is 3x the cost with half the reliability?" LOL |
OP didn't write anything about price point. Are you OP? |
Where are you getting your quotes? *Your* |
| Op here and the most we want to spend is $30,000. Unfortunately a Tesla is not in our price range. |
| We have a Kia Niro plug-in hybrid...LOVE IT...only have put three tanks of gas in since with bought it in August. Comes w/ Apple car play...back up camera, a lot of standard feature Toyota and Honda upcharge for a "package" |
Op here, we did look at the Niro, but we decided against Kia based on reliability issues. My husband's first car was a Kia and the engine caught on fire. This was around 10 years ago and maybe Kia's have improved since then, but the experience really turned us off to them. |
We are seriously considering the Niro. Looks like a really great car. |
