Expectant and Postpartum Moms

My husband and I have been kicking around boys' names for about two weeks. We don't disagree on names. Instead, we jointly agree that everything we come up with sucks for us.
It goes like this, "How about ___? Yeah, no. How about ___? Yeah, that sucks. How about ____ ? Yeah, we know about 20 kids with that name, and it would be confusing in school. How about ____ ? Yeah, he would get teased. So out of the blue tonight, my husband looks up at the dinner table, and says, "How about Finnegan?" And I liked it. I really do. His parents are Irish, and we have a very Irish last name. The worst that could come of this is that our boy would probably have a pub in Ireland with his namesake. Finnegan. It is working for me. |
| TRENDY. Calling him Finn? DOUBLE TRENDY. If you don't care about that sort of thing, go ahead. Really, though, you might as well name him Liam or Jack. |
| Don't like it at all, sounds like a furniture store |
| You like it, you agree on it (probably more important)--honestly? Who cares what other people think? Go for it.... |
| Congrats on coming up with a name you both like! Ignore the other posts... |
damn. ease up sister. we just liked the sound of it. |
I like it. A lot. Never heard Finnegan before. "Finn", only with Julia Roberts' son. But, who cares? If you like it go for it. |
| Finn, Finnegan, phineas (sp?), all trendy, but if you like it, and you are really into asserting your irishness (isn't everyone who is irish really into gaelic names, etc?) Then go ahead. I know multiple Finns and Finleys (girls) under 2. |
| I think it's cute but I do know 3 Finns, all boys. I think it is becoming more popular. If a popular name is a concern for you, check out the SSA's website and search by your state or try the baby name wizard site. |

I don't know any Finns, FWIW.
But I say if you love it, go for it. It's your baby, and he will fill that name out with his own little personality, and it will become distinctly him. |
| We know 2 Finn's. One is Finnegan, but goes by Finn. I love the name, but don't think it's really common/trendy. |
| I think it's a fine name. If you both finally found something you agree on, that's an accomplishment! I find boys names tough to choose. |
| Finn is a fantastic nickname. If it goes well with the last name, why not? |
| It is a little trendy, but I like it. More importantly, both of you like it. I say go for it. |
| It is because of some of these nasty comments that we have chosen to keep our name a secret. If you and your Dh like it, then go for it. Ignore the angry people. |
