Why I love my cleaning lady...

Anonymous
I can only afford it every 4-6 weeks, but it’s totally worth it!! I hate, hate, hate cleaning. And deep cleaning is just—ugh. But most importantly, the reason I love her so much, is she forces me to deal with that clutter that just hangs around the edges. The clutter that just gets cleaned around. I get more done knowing she’ll be here tomorrow.

Yes! I try to explain this to DH and he doesn’t get it.

Yeah, DH doesn’t understand why I spend an hour getting ready for her. He thinks it’s a waste of money. But the 4-5 hours she’s here doing a deep clean and the 1 hour I do a massive clutter purge, so worth it. I’d never get it that clean.

I've had the same cleaning lady for decades. I'd rather eat rice and beans than give her up. I'd give up all vacations to keep her coming. I don't have to make that choice but I would.

How does she do a deep clean in 4-5 hours?
Mine come once a month for 12 hours. Two people 6 hours each.

Yes! I would be buried under clutter if I didn’t have the imminent arrival of my cleaning crew to force me to pick up and put away my crap!

How on earth do you make enough of a mess that you need cleaning people for 12 hours a month? Are they washing/folding/ironing laundry in addition to cleaning? Cleaning inside the fridge and oven? Windows? All every month? I think mine are here 4 woman-hours. But they don't do the inside of the fridge or oven. And they don't do laundry. And my house is only 2500 sf, two bathrooms.

To me, it's marital therapy or cleaning lady. I would chose the cleaning lady all day long.

This is OP. I pay $20 per hour. But I tip her $5-10 on top of that.

Op Here- How big is your house? I have 2400sqft 2 story ranch. She doesn’t do laundry or clean out the refrigerator. I’ve done all the dishes and my dish rack is empty. But today I saw her wash the top of our recycling trash can in the sink. I had no idea it was that dirty.

No they don’t do any of that.
We have 4000 sq ft plus another 1200 in basement. Wood floors everywhere. 5 bathrooms.

I'm really glad you wrote that. I know why I spend an hour or more getting ready, but I hate every second of it. Still, as you've pointed out, it's far less time that it would have taken to declutter AND clean. Thanks, PP.
