| Every time my daughter (2 YO) has a cold I argue with myself over whether or not to send her, and usually base it on whether she's being herself. The DC's written guidelines aren't helpful and it seems like all winter everyone in her class has a runny nose. What guidelines do you follow? |
|
Definitely keep home if: fever, cough + runny nose, tired/fatigue, vomiting/diarrhea, communicable disease (hmf, pink eye)
Send to school: cough only, slight runny nose only, 24 hours after fever or vomiting |
| Keep home if fever, vomiting, or obviously miserable. Otherwise kid is going in. |
DD has a cough and runny nose. I kept her home today because the cough kept her up all night, it was better today but turned into a runny nose. Take another day off or send her? |
What was her energy level like today? For me, a runny nose is not enough reason to stay home. |
t 100% full of joy. She met Santa and had so much fun running around the mall. Last night she barely slept but was able to sleep in until 9. |
|
If I kept my daughter home for a runny nose, she would go to daycare about 19 days a year.
As long as she is feeling well, no fever, no diarrhea/vomiting, she is going. HFM is actually allowed at our daycare since it's already spread by the time symptoms appear. |
Thank you for making me feel better. I feel bad getting others sick and probably their parents though. |
| You took her to the mall after she was up all night? And met Santa??? |
Wow, just wow. She was sick so you put her on Santa's lap so he could get sick and share it |
I so don't understand people like this. If your kid is not well enough to go to school, then don't bring them to public places. I know, I know....your kid just HAS to get out of the house to run around a mall and sit on Santa's lap when they're sick. There's NO WAY your kid will survive a sick day without doing that. |
| Fever or vomiting, definitely home. Home for multiple day diarrhea. Miserable or run down the same. Sniffles or cough but behaving normally she goes in. It all comes from school to begin with I also weigh out if it’s easier send her in knowing we’ll get a call to pick her up, or just keeping her home. Obviously this is only on mostly ok but not feeling 100% days. |
She did not sit on his lap, she sat on mine and wasn't coughing most of the day. We've all been coughing for two weeks, it wasn't until her nose started running tonight that I realized something new was coming up. Coughs can linger for weeks after a cold. |
And I kept her home b/c we're both feds and got the day off. We were planning on going to the mall anyway. |
| If I think I would be annoyed at a parent for sending their kid to school with the same symptoms my kid has, I keep them home. If I think I would be miserable at work if I had the same symptoms that my kid has, I keep them home. |
