DC concil to ban leaf blowers!

Anonymous
Ok, to be fair, they are just talking about it. (However the one concil woman that was talking to channel 4 seemed definite about it.)

They want to ban leaf blower due to the noise and the polution.

However, there are no decent alternatives, and those of us that are older, or in my case blown up with the resulting neck injury, cant spend hours raking leaves.

Further more, paying someone to do it for me costs alot more money than the one time cost of a leaf blower.

Not to mention the fact that you only use it in the late fall. Seriously, how much noise it realistically generated for a few weeks out of the year?

Seems like someone is trying to pass a law to pretend they are making a difference, as opposed to tackling something actually important.

Ban them!!!!! Absolutely. Total quality of life issue.

Use a rake.

OP, it's only gas-powered leaf blowers that are being banned. You will still be able to use an electric leaf blower.

OP, an electric leaf-blower makes a lot less noise and pollution. It's good that cities are encouraging the use of quieter, pollution-light, alternatives.

Ridiculous.

First world, totally DC problem. Can't lean bubblegum off of the sidewalks but can legislate leaf blowing. So now MPD will be giving leaf tickets?

Leaf blowers or GAS leaf blowers? Gas leaf blowers are already banned in a lot of areas locally - they are not good for the environment and there are alternatives.

They are so loud, polluting, and offensive. Wish they would ban them in MoCo! It will never happen though.

They like to tackle these kinds of problems so that it seems like they are doing something.

I'm curious what will happen when all the developers and property managers of the city hear about this. I suspect it will die a quick death.

Rakes and electric blowers are already in widespread use.

I'd just like to ban the subject of leaf blowers from my listserv. It is endless and pathetic. My favorite is the claims that they should be disallowed because they are not environmentally friendly...from the same neighbors that take multiple intercontinental flights a year.

And it wouldn't be until 2022 when the ban takes effect...if it passes at all.

What's the over/under here?

So you HAVE to use a gas leaf blower because you're too lazy/weak/cheap to use an electric one?

That's because you're a jerk.
