Looks like Asra has her family members doing her dirty work now.

You and every other F PS owes Asra a debt of gratitude.

If it wasn't for Asra and the rest of the Fairfax Times crew, hayfield cheating would never had seen the light of day, and no one would have had a clue that county wide tezoning was coming until their high school juniors were handed their brand new school assignments.

I don't agree with Asra on every thing, but you are correct.

We get no local reports that I am aware of. Would we have known about the TJ changes? Doubtful. Right or wrong, we needed to be aware.
WAPO reports almost nothing. Even the primaries for Connolly's seat had little press until yesterday.
Fairfax Times, Fairfax Now, and, occasionally the Patch newsletters give some information. Unfortunately, it is usually a rehash of what FCPS says.

Hi again. You’ve posted similar posts before- we see your faux anger. Shame on you for pretending that this is your first time posting about the group.

Nope, sorry, this is my first time posting about them. I see their name here over and over again and I literally have never heard of them before this thread and certainly never been contacted by them. How can they claim to represent families when they don't do any outreach? Who are these people?

You really don't know?

It started out as a group of Langley parents concerned about potential redistricting and broadened into a wider group of parents and community members from all across the county. They have a Facebook page with over 2000 members.

The group pointed out irregularities in the process for selecting BRAC members and pushed for disclosure of their names. As a result of their advocacy, FCPS agreed to disclose the names of BRAC members (the appointees who didn't want their names disclosed resigned from the BRAC and were replaced), agreed to make the materials shared with BRAC members available to the public within a day or so of the BRAC meetings, and agreed that FairFACTS Matters could have two representatives on the BRAC. One is from the Langley area and the other from the other end of the county. They often share information on their FB page after the BRAC meetings and let others repost those summaries without restriction on other sites like this one.

But for their advocacy and transparency, we'd probably know even less about the boundary review than we currently do, and we might not know the frustrations that the BRAC members themselves have repeatedly expressed about FCPS staff and Thru Consulting asking BRAC members to provide feedback on quick notice while failing to provide them with background data that has been repeatedly requested.

Thank you, this is helpful background to have. And no, I really don't know - I don't use Facebook and nobody I've asked has heard of this group either. If they are advocating for transparency, then why haven't we heard of them? 2000 is a very small amount of people given that there are something like 180,000 children in FCPS. I'm happy for them that their advocacy worked for their part of the county but it sounds like it didn't work for everyone else.

Are these the same people that did the open fcps signs? Those people at least had signs, I haven't seen any boundary study signs anywhere. And are they the same people that you're saying are against the western Fairfax high school? Because they say it lacks transparency?

Your post seems meant to stir the pot.

First, you are conflating groups in your post, seemingly intentionally. Also a little weird to state you aren’t on Facebook and then insinuate that they must not be advocating well because they don’t have yard signs.

Also, since it is a county-wide group, it’s incorrect to say that it worked in “their” part of the county.

Finally, for the fifty billionth time, the next door posts are about lack of process and public disclosure, not against the new school.

I don't understand why people here think everything must be a conspiracy theory. I'm clearly not as well informed as you are and I'm asking questions to gain clarity, this board is incredibly confusing. So here are a few things: (1) The person before you LITERALLY said that the Fair Facts group "went quiet" after their part of the county didn't have boundary changes. Sorry I confused your post and their post but that's what someone said. (2) I'm not 65 years old, so I don't have a Nextdoor account and have no idea what people have posted, hence the question about if that's the same people or different people. (3) My kids were in 3rd and 1st during Covid so I distinctly remember the open fcps signs everywhere, that has been the only parent advocacy I've been exposed to, I'm asking if these are the same people as that. I'm guessing no because those people were very well organized and vocal and the Fair Facts people clearly aren't.

I'm frustrated that you're all accusing me of being a troll just because I don't know what the heck you're talking about. This site brings out the worst type of people. I'll stick to asking neighborhood and PTA parents for information going forward, I get nothing out of this site other than people yelling nonsense at each other.

You’re free to go. No one asked you to come to this site. Go ask your neighbors what’s going or the PTA.

I’m the poster who responded to your original post. I hadn’t had time to respond to your follow-up “inquiry” but tend to agree with the posters who did respond that your very leading follow-up questions seemed to be trolling. If you don’t like being accused of trolling then you might want to pay more attention to the tone of your comments.

Beyond that, I’ll only respond as follows: my understanding is that there’s little if any overlap between the FairFACTS Matters and #OpenFCPS groups. The latter may have had a lot of signs but their main effort was to organize a series of unsuccessful petitions to recall School Board members. The former has more of a presence on FB, and they seem more interested in trying to work within the system than recalling SB members, even if they are frustrated with the current SB and Dr. Reid.

DP. You've been told several times to simply join their FB page. And yes, they actually ARE very well organized, which is why people across the county look to them for information about SB happenings and boundaries.

So this is full steam ahead?

If (when?) the timing slips to the following year 2027-28, will there be any relief at Coates before then? That school is already getting royally screwed with the delay to make it part of the general review.

Surely they won't do that. I suspect they will do something for this coming year, but they should tell us what it is. People who work there are quite distressed.
I did read somewhere that they are sending the kids on the other side of DTR to Herndon Elementary. I hope so.

Wouldn’t they have needed to make that change by now? Tomorrow is July, and school starts mid-August.

KAA is coming fully furnished and was built to accommodate grades K-12. Hopefully they’ll utilize that space and not leave the building vacant all year aside from “training.”

I found this on the page for Coates boundary study:

Update May 8, 2025

Given the ongoing Comprehensive School Boundary Review, the Coates ES boundary study will be prioritized in that effort. Accommodations for students for School Year (SY) 2025-26 were presented to the community on May 7, 2025.

Still searching for what those accommodations are.

They’re adding a few more trailers and parking spaces for teachers. Bare minimum.

Pathetic.

I've taught in schools where the specials were in the classroom--specialists hate it, but, in this case, it makes sense. But, the additional trailers? Where are the bathrooms? That was one of the complaints i saw on Nextdoor from a staff member. They could move those across the DTR easily to another school.

The bathrooms was my question too. It looks like over the past two years they’ll have installed 20 temporary classrooms and one bathroom trailer.

I sincerely hope they consider KAA as an alternative for handling the 2025-26 school year. It’s ridiculous to repurpose closets into classrooms and have half the school outside in trailers when there’s a school with two existing playgrounds sitting vacant 2 miles down the road. Let’s treat the students and teaching staff with some dignity!

I just tried to check the profile of Coates to see the numbers. The profile is not showing up for me on Coates or any other school. Anyone else having this issue?

The situation at Herndon ES and Hutchinson is 10 modulars and 4 trailers at Herndon and 12 trailers at Hutchinson, so it’s moving from one temporary classrooms room to another. The expansion at Herndon ES won’t be done until 2028.
